International Students a Treasure for the Globalized World

An editorial by Guillermo Gutierrez
The number of international students has increased over the years, reaching an
impressionist quantity of 974,926 international students on the period year of 2014-2015. Up to
this times the international exchange of knowledge has suffered limitations created by wars,
international hostilities, and rigorous immigration laws. But through time international students
have shown that they add something special to colleges and institutions they belong to, they give
cultural diversity and create a healthy rivalry. Besides the social advantages international
students represent, they also create an important economic revenue. Associations have been
created to support and encourage the participation of international students. This important
exchange of knowledge should be preserved and supported as it creates opportunities and
advantages that can be exploited by all the countries.
Our international students have the vision to test out
ideas as future ambassadors, problem-solvers, and innovators
in the increasingly globalized world that Nussbaum
describes. They inspire me with their talents, aspiration and
optimism for creating a better world.(3) is what Daniel R.
Porterfield, president of Franklin & Marshall College stated

world. For him the globalized world needs to share culture,
learn intensively and build bridges together. He sees the interaction of international students as
something that benefits them and benefits the American education. His opinion grows from his
experiences as he followed the life of some international students in his institution.
Immigration is a problems that many countries face, education sometimes contributes to a
great number of immigrants. This is why some countries have seen as a solution to make the visa
process more rigorous. In the United Kingdom enrollment of
international student has dropped since in April of 2012, new
immigration regulations came into effect (1). This has
happened before in the United States territory and led to the
same results, the new immigrant ideology that has grown in
the political heads of the United States is starting to scare the
future international students. The social and cultural

the comment that also keep international students off of American colleges. (4)
These negatives ideas scare international students and U.S population who fear that
international students who have wishes to stay will get their jobs and decrease their opportunities
of succeeding but the competition and interaction of a different knowledge and culture helps both
sides to transcend and grow.
