Challenges and Difficulties Faced by the International Student in the US

Globalization has created empowered communication and interaction across people all

over the world. As a result of globalization, people have traveled to different parts of the world

in search of better or improved services, education being one of them. The United States boasts

one of the best educational systems and institutions in the world. As a result, there are a lot of

international students, from different continents, cultures, beliefs, races, and religions, in many of

the educational institutions in the United States especially those of higher learning (Cudmore,

2005). Most of these students find themselves in a completely new environment and one that

they find it difficult or take time to adapt. The new environment is accompanied by various

challenges that international students have to either overcome or adapt (Burkhardt & Bennett,

2015). This research will investigate the challenges and difficulties faced by these students

during their stay in the US.

The research will be guided by research questions which will also form the objectives of

the research. The research will seek to investigate;

I. The challenges and issues being faced by international students in the US socially,

financially, and culturally.

II. Impacts of the challenges on their academic performance.

III. How the students cope with or overcome the challenges and difficulties.

IV. Ways that learning institutions and the federal government have employed to improve the

stay of international students in the US.
