Dear Families,

My name is Rachel Brunner and I am one the students from the University of Dayton that
will be assisting Miss Rhodehamel in the classroom this spring! I am a junior, Early
Childhood Education major also pursuing an Urban Teacher Academy
certificate and Early Childhood Intervention Specialist licensure. I am from
Toledo, OH, but have enjoyed making Dayton my home nine months out of the
year. Besides attending classes, I am an intern at Edison Elementary
School and assist in after school programs such as tutoring and Newspaper
Club. I am also an intern for a local organization, For Love of Children
(FLOC). On campus I am apart of many organizations. I am a member
of UDs Association for Young Children, which is an advocacy
organization for young childrens education. I am a member of
Solidarity Club where we visit a local elementary school and help
promote kindness and a positive self-image among young girls. Finally,
I am the president of Epsilon Delta Upsilon, the professional
fraternity for Education and Health & Sport Science Majors.
As a part of our classes this semester, my partner, Jacqueline, and I
will be assistants in your childs classrooms at Rosa Parks every Thursday morning.
Along with helping with classroom routines, we will be implementing various lesson plans
of our own on the investigation topic of sound. I am very excited to be working in your
childs classroom this semester!
My name is Jacqueline Schmidt, and I am a junior Early Childhood
Education Major at the University of Dayton. I have just joined the
Urban Teacher Academy, and am working towards earning an
endorsement in Pre-K Special Needs. I have always carried a love
for children, and a passion for helping others, so the opportunity to
become a teacher is a dream come true. I have had many
opportunities to work with children through various experiences
such as nannying and babysitting, volunteer work at a childrens
hospital, tutoring at various schools and through a mission trip to
Tanzania, Africa. In Africa I had the privilege of teaching in a
kindergarten classroom. This experience almost single-handedly led
me to my decision of early childhood education as my future career.
Rachel and I will be spending Thursday mornings in Miss
Rhodenhamels classroom as a part of one of our education classes.
We will be spending around three hours a week in the classroom, in
hopes of getting to know your children more, and gain knowledge
about teaching through real life experiences. In our time at Rosa Parks, we will be
implementing a few science-based lessons, and are very excited to share these activities
with your children. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children, we are very
excited to be a part of the classroom this semester!

Sincerely,
Jacqueline Schmidt and Rachel Brunner
