The games selected, "Sound Circle," "Machine," "Human Knot," and "Links" all
supported the over-aching goal of building ensemble. The games were presented in a
logical order and required increasing commitment and goal-oriented risk-taking from
the participants.

Mr. Martin structured this class intentionally. His instructions were clearly stated, and
he provided clarification or redirection as needed to keep students focused and on
task. He responded to the needs of individuals and groups to scaffold the assignment.

Comments:

Mr. Martin is naturally reflective. He is quick to notice when something works well in a
class, and when something needs to be tweaked for the next time around. Mr. Martin is
attentive to student learning. He allows the actual outcomes of student work to
influence the planning of the next lesson- in other words, he doesn't move on unless
the students have been successful in tackling the challenge presented by the exercise.

Mr. Martin is approachable and friendly yet professional in demeanor. He makes an

with a student with special needs by complimenting his Mario Bros. t-shirt.
Suggestions for Continuing Professional Development: Areas of Strength and Areas for Growth

Mr. Martin demonstrates the poise and competency of a professional teacher. He uses instructional
time wisely and is able to quickly gain the trust and respect of his students. He is insightful about
the social dynamics which play out in a middle school classroom and intentionally works to include
all of the students and to encourage an inclusive learning environment. Mr. Martin works well with
other teachers and is sincerely interested in improving his professional performance.
