A SLICE OF LIFE AT QUEENS COLLEGE

stablished only 6 years after slavery in the era of

Queen Victoria reign, the College would have
started at the point of political, economic, social
and historical change. From then to now the

college has steered through the course of time adapting to

various educational policies and environments. The year 1975
ushered in the modern period of the College. It was the year
when the policy of co-education was employed. For the first
time female students were registered at the College.
ALMA MATER
The philosophy of Queens College is enclosed in the signifiers:
the school song, Reginae Collegium, its motto Fidelis Ubique
Utiles, Queens College, Be Faithful and useful always and
everywhere the hymns-(Lord Behold us with thy Blessings and
Lord Dismiss us with thy Blessings) and the House System.

The signifiers provide form, structure and unity for those within
the halls and room of the College. A school is sum total of
homes which can be defined as various social and economic
environments. The school Queens College a seven- year
school which has provided the scholars of international acclaim
and political leadership is hailed over five generations as a
nourishing mother. A mother shapes and assists in the
chartering course. It charters its course beyond the first year of
university.

This nourishing mother is Alma Mater to generations
