The student population in elementary education continues to become more diverse, yet
the ethnicity and gender of those teaching elementary education continues to be predominately
Caucasian females. This is one of the trends in elementary education and in the CCSD. This is
the one that concerns me the most.
I find it so crazy that although the student population in elementary education continues
to become more diverse that the gender of the teachers continues to mostly be Caucasian
females. I would think that since there is a more diverse population of students they would hire
more teachers with different ethnicities.
That fact that the teachers are not diverse enough can affect the students because maybe
they will feel more comfortable with someone that was the same race as them. Im not saying
they wont be comfortable at all with someone who isnt the same race. I would just personally
feel more comfortable with someone of the same race as me.
I might be a female, but Im not Caucasian. The fact that Im Hispanic would be
something good for my classroom in the future.
