What is the Caste System?

An extremely old social hierarchy system developed by the Hindu Religion more than 3,000
years ago.
What is affirmative action?
An action that favors those who are in a bad situation socially and economically.
How is it impacting India?
It is keeping the people divided and keeping certain people from getting jobs. This angers the
people of India of all castes and has caused violent protests.
Where can it be seen in the US?
This system can be similarly with the U.S. wealth distribution (the lower class, middle class, and
higher class). In our system when one is born in the lower class it can be extremely hard to get
out of, and vice versa.
Do you agree with it?
No because people born into a certain class may have the potential to perform tasks of the
higher class, but they are born with a premature bad reputation and will never get the education
they deserve.
Is Gandhi considered a failure because he was never able to get rid of the Caste system?
No because no matter what Gandhi still gave India its independence, and the caste system was
actually banned in the 1950. Although people still live in poverty, all the good that Gandhi has
done cannot be ignored.
