Literature:

cannons. They couldnt disobey their commander because he is their
superior and it is their duty to follow their superiors orders
2. Tanjung Rhu The story of a son whose mother has a very bad eyesight
( cataract) He buys for her binoculars so that she can see far. On the day
when she was suppose to go her sons office, she had to pray to her
deceased husband, where she was fighting with her granddaughter. The
grandmother insist in order to pray it has to follow proper customs like
bowing down deeply, how to pour the wine correctly and how to talk to the
ancestors. After visiting the sons office she falls ill. And she keeps on
repeating about the altar key being hidden. When she dies, and son
returns to the altar room to pray for his parents, he is unable to open the
drawers because they are locked and he cant find the keys
3. Leaving The story of a widow who has 5 children, 2 of them which were
married. Because of the custom if she gets married she has to give away
her children, she didnt remarry. Instead she closed the shop and moved
with her a children to another place so that it is quiet and they can focus
on their studies. Her son Aloo was a smart boy. One day Mr. Datoo comes
back from America and suggests Aloo to apply for universities abroad and
he did. The local university offered Aloo agriculture which he was not
interested in. One day he received a reply from California Institute of
Technology to study medicine abroad. His mother was shocked and upset
that he is adamant to go. They need an extra 3000 shillings for his
expenses and flight ticket. Due to this mother and son fought. After the
fight due to anger all Aloo did was read and read. Then the mother went
an visited Mr. Velji to ask for his opinion and he said it was a great
opportunity. Listening to his advice the mother reluctantly let Aloo study in
America with the promise he would write often and never forget his culture
and tradition as well as to return back home once he is done with his
studies.
