Akil Martin

UWRT 1102-002

Dear Andrew
My name is Akil Marin and I am 20 years old. I was born on April 27 th 1995 on an island
in the Caribbean known as Saint Lucia. However, I was raised on another island also in the
Caribbean called Saint Kitts, not far from Saint Lucia. Therefore, I consider myself as a
Kittitian, which is the nationality of being a citizen of Saint Kitts. With this being said, you will
find that I have a very different accent from my peers in this class as I pronounce my words in a
different way. On the other hand, I am a transfer student from a community college from Saint
Kitts. I am currently majored in Pre-Accounting.
I am 64 with the passion to watch and play basketball. However, I have become
interested in other sports such as football, soccer, tennis and cricket. Besides sports, I love to
watch TV shows as I have watched a variety of them such as Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones
and The Walking Dead. I watch these shows for the entertainment, the thrill, the drama and the
lessons to be taught. I am well known as a person who loves to eat and can devour every single
food on my plate and probably go back for seconds. Unfortunately, even though I love to eat I
lack the skills in being able to cook. I am allergic to nuts as I would get sick. However, besides
disliking nuts because of my allergic reaction to them, I am a very optimistic individual so I have
little dislikes.
I am an average reader and writer with much potential to obtain. My desire to read is not
that strong but I would read when a topic or title seems interesting to read about. The reason I

say my writing skill is average is because I sometime have trouble organizing my writing piece
and have a low vocabulary. On the other hand, these issues I will address and improve myself.
The quote that caught my attention and I admire is, I might only have one match, but I
can make an explosion by Rachel Platten. The reason you printed that quote was to motivate
the class and encourage us to strive for success. I interpret this as your motive because the quote
means that even with the less things you have in your life in that moment, you can strive for
greatness and have an impact on society or even the world.
