Dear Hiring Professional:
It is with enthusiasm that I write this letter of support for my advise, Emily DeWitt, in her efforts to
secure a school counseling position within your school system. Ms. DeWitt is currently completing the
final requirements for completion of her MA in Counseling (School Counseling) here at WVU. | have
had the opportunity to supervise Emily as she completes her internship experience in both a middle
school setting (5-8 grades) and a high school setting (9-12" grades).
Ms. DeWitt is a wonderful student who is excited about working with children and adolescents in 2
school setting. As a part of her internship experience, Emily is examining school data to evaluate the
effectiveness of her school counseling program’s effort to improve academics in her placement. | have
found Emily to be bright and she is quickly becoming knowledgeable about how public schools function
and how students can benefit from a professional school counselor to advocate for them. Emily is well
liked by her students and her colleagues. Emily possess clear strengths such as her ability to connect
with students, her openness to learning, feedback and growing from her experiences, and her desire to
understand her appropriate role as the school counselor; Emily is quick to ask questions when she
doesn’t understand. Additionally, as is common with new professionals in this field, she often lacks
confidence in her abilities. However, in the words of one of her site supervisors, “Emily is better than
she realizes.” | completely concur. Emily is very skilled and growing in her knowledge, but she will
often question her decisions and she needs to trust her instincts more. With time, she will grow more
confident, | am sure of that!
thighly recommend Emily DeWitt for any position you may have open. Emily will make a wonderful
addition to your faculty and staff and will work tirelessly to create a positive school climate and culture
within your school system. Should you have further questions regarding Ms. DeWitt’s readiness to
perform the duties of a professional school counselor or would like to discuss her training, please do
not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Chyhet) SUP
