It is a pleasure to write this recommendation for Emily DeWitt. I accepted Emily as an
intern through the WVU counseling program for the 2016 spring semester.
As an intern student Emily displayed counseling skills and techniques of a veteran
counselor. I was very impressed by how quickly she was able to gain rapport with the students.
The children greatly enjoyed her friendly and caring personality.
While working as an intern student at West Fairmont Middle, Emily has displayed an
exceptional work ethic and has demonstrated loyalty and dedication to the students. The
students could not speak more highly of Miss DeWitt time and care that she has put into her
work with them.
Emily transitioned very quickly into the middle school environment as she performed
many aspects of counseling such as teaching developmental guidance lessons, meeting with
individual students for academic and personal concerns, developing and holding groups for
stress management, and acclimating new students to the school. She has also participated in
SAT and general team and parent meetings and trainings and is familiar with WVEIS and the
registration and scheduling processes.
I am happy to recommend Emily for a permanent counseling position. She will be a
valuable addition to any school. I can recommend her with no reservations. She is talented,
efficient and highly effective as a school counselor.
