This document proposes an Art Therapy Garden to be built in Second Life. The garden would provide a public space for individuals to explore art through painting and clay as a way to relieve stress and reconnect with nature. It would include both a studio and gallery area for artistic expression and viewing others' works. The secluded garden setting in a wooded clearing is intended to be a calm, quiet place for tired minds to relax and explore feelings through creative means.

"Stress is basically a disconnection from the earth, a forgetting of the breath." -Natalie Goldberg
Stress is a constant factor of life. Whatever the cause,
we are all heavily burdened down by everyday stressors and desperately seek ways to relieve that tension. Art Therapy is the perfect remedy for an anxious disposition. Through artistic means, individuals are able to express feelings and exchange ideas. This is a process of organic self-exploration, and people often discover underlying feelings they had been previously unknown.
Our design team acknowledges that many
people may not have the resources necessary for this purpose. Providing a paint and clay studio will allow visitors to explore without the material restraints. We see a need for a public space for individuals to come to create artwork and reconnect with the earth.
We, The United Design Operation, propose an
Art Therapy Garden to be built in the Virtual Peace Garden in Second Life. This interactive garden will be a combination of studio and gallery space, providing both an artistic release as well as a place to quietly view others' work. The entire garden will live in a clearing in the middle of a wooded area, just waiting to be stumbled upon by unsuspecting individuals. This garden will be calm, quiet and secluded; perfect for a tired mind to relax, explore their senses, and pull free of any emotional weights or burdens.
