problem solving when it comes to
homelessness.

The Goal
The national alliance to end
homelessness strives to find
solutions to ending homelessness.
They work with different
organizations, both local and
national and they also work with
the government to create new laws
in order to help the homeless.

The
Numbers
According to the
Alliance, in January
2015, 564,708
people were
homeless. With
358,422 being
individuals and
47,725 being
veterans. A total of
17 percent were
considered
chronically homeless.

Older Numbers
These are the percentages of
different types of homeless people
for 2011, also provided by the
Alliance. It shows that 17% were
chronic individuals, meaning they
are regularly homeless. 46% were
non-chronic individuals, these would
be people who would have the
occasional night sleeping outside.
They would likely spend other nights
on friends couches or in shelters.
37% are people in families.

Housing First

The housing first program takes the homeless

and first gives them homes. After this it goes
about solving the other issues as they come.
This method has proven effective for Virginia
and it has shown that the homeless are more
successful and more likely to get jobs when they
have a guaranteed place to stay every night.
