Adjectives Lesson Plan

Subject/Content: ELAR/Adjectives



Grade: Kindergarten

TEKS: (16) Oral and Written Conventions/Conventions. Students understand the
function of and use the conventions of academic language when speaking and
writing. Students continue to apply earlier standards with greater complexity.
Students are expected to: (iii) descriptive words

Objective: The learner will be able to use at least one adjective to describe the
pumpkin they made.

Plan:
On Tuesday in small groups, I will help the students decorate their pumpkins
with silly faces
On Wednesday, introduce adjectives with Schoolhouse Rock video:

Make Adjectives anchor chart with a pumpkin on it. I will write on the
pumpkin different adjectives the students come
up with. The anchor chart will have the
definition of adjectives on it.
Remind them of their silly pumpkins they made
the day before
Have paper with sentence stems saying, My
pumpkin is ____________ where the students will
put a descriptive word about the pumpkin they
made.
I will have a list of premade adjectives that the
students can use as reference to spell or get an
idea of what they want to write down.
Once everyone has finished it, I will take a
picture with the student and their pumpkin, and
make a book for the class library with their sentence and their picture in it. I
will also laminate it.

Materials:
20 small pumpkins
Pumpkin decorating supplies (stickers, glitter, glue, etc.)
Anchor chart (premade)
YouTube video
Sentence stems papers (x20)
List of adjectives
