Drawing and dictation
The grade level that I want to teach is actually the high school level. It is my plan to get
my single subject teaching credential in art. Therefore if I were to use this teaching strategy in
my art classes I would have to make a lot of modifications. This assignment reminded me of an
assignment that I did in my high school art class. The assignment I did in high school was that
we had to make a collage of a memory from our childhood. Then when we turned in the collage
we also had to turn in a one page paper that talked about our memory that we chose and why we
decided to do that memory. On my drawing and dictation that I did in class I decided to do a
drawing of my favorite pet. If I were to do a project like this in my high school classes I could
have my students do a drawing of their favorite pet or favorite animal and then also write a short
essay about that animal or pet. They could talk about why it is their favorite and if they chose
their favorite pet they could maybe write about what their best memory is with that pet. I could
also have them do a drawing of something that they did on their spring break, like many students
in this class did. Then instead of just writing two simple sentences about it I could have my
students write a paper about what they did on their spring break. I could do something similar to
this teaching strategy in almost every assignment I give because I can give the students a
drawing assignment and then have them write about it. In my classes I probably wont use this
teaching strategy with every assignment I give but I may do it every once in a while.
