TYPES OF TRAP

a.- P- Trap
b.- Q- Trap
c.- S-trap

The purpose of a trap is to prevent sewer gases, and


possibly vermin, from coming in to the home. When
water sits in the trap, sewer gases stay out.

P. Trap
This trap is used with Indian water closet.
The trap are made from cast iron or UPV
sheet.
This trap also has water seal and prevents
entry of foul gases to the house.

Q. Trap
This trap is used in toilet under water
closet.
It is almost similar to S trap and used in
upper stoery other than ground floor.

S. Trap
This trap is similar to P trap and is used
for fixing water closets in toilets.
The only difference between P trap and S
trap is that P trap is used for outlet
through the wall whereas S trap is used
for outlet through the floor

FLOOR TRAPS - traps which are used for receiving
surface waste water the floor of bath & kitchens.
-a form of floor trap much used in practice is the nahani
trap.
USED FOR -admitting waste from floors of
kitchens , baths ,courtyards or washing places.
PROVIDED WITH - C.I.grating at the top to
avoid passing of coarse solid matter to house
drain.

GULLY TRAPS -the traps which


are used to receive
waste water from wash basins ,
sinks , baths etc.
-PROVIDED AT - different places in
the drain pipes.
-sullage from bath , sinks , basin
etc. enters in
through back inlet & rain or
surface water from
house tops etc. enters from top.
-a coarse screen grating is
provided at the top to
prevent entry of solid matters in
the trap.

INTERCEPTING TRAPS - the traps which are provided at the junction of a


house drain & sewer.
-also called the disconnecting trap.
-it disconnects the house drain from the street sewer.
-it is placed in the lowest end of the house drain & the street sewer.
-the trap has an opening at the top called the rodding arm or cleaning eye & has
a tight fitting plug.this enables the trap to be periodically cleaned of any
obstruction present inside.
-it has a deeper water seal (i.e. not less than 10 cms.)than an ordinary trap.
