Our Last Performance

We all stood in line facing away from the field while the
other band was still performing. I could feel my heart racing
and butterflies in my stomach. I looked around at all my
friends, some were smiling and a few were crying. But most
of them were hugging, because for some people it would be
their last time marching in these uniforms.
When the band on the field played their final note we
all straightened up the line and got back into our original
order. Mark time mark! yelled Mr. Jones and he started to
clap his hands, and then the snare drum took over. Every
time we hear the snare, we have to be on our left foot. When
we started marching to the field we split into our separate
lines and went down the yard lines to our opening set. I stood
there for a second looking up at our drum major Tori, waiting
for her to start conducting the warm-up.
She raised her arms and the band raised their
instruments, and then started playing Bb Remingtons. Right
after she cut off the last note, the announcer introduced us to
the crowd. After he finished we began our great show, I
counted in my head until I had to step off and get to my next
dot. Finally after eleven minutes and three movements we
played our last note and started marching off the field in step

with the snare. Soon as we got into the rooms where all our
bags and clothes were stored, we all changed then headed
back out the stands to hear our rating. We all stood in silence
listening to all the other bands and flights get their scores,
finally after 2 divisions it was our flight. Starting with sixth
place in flight 2 The announcer said. Carman Ainsworth.
People from our band started hugging each other, mainly the
seniors because it was their last year. But most people
werent surprised and said they knew we wouldnt be going
to Ford Field.
After the ratings we all loaded the Blue Bus then got onto
the school buses to take us back to the high school. It was
about 8 oclock when we arrived back at the high school, but
it was raining cats and dogs. We all scrambled to hurry and
unload all the instruments into the band room so none of the
cases or instruments got soaked. When we were all finally
done unloading the bus, we all huddled into the large band
room. Mr. Jones told us how great we did, even though we
arent going to Ford Field this season there is always next
season. After his speech we all said our goodbyes and started
to leave little by little. Even though we didnt go to state
finals, I think it was still was our best performance .
