Here I am giving the step by step method for calculating the properties of any kind of section using

AutoCAD

Assignment: To get the sectional properties of ISMB400 with ISMC 300 on top of it.

1) Draw ISMB 400 to the scale

2) Draw ISMC 300 on top of it

3) Explode the whole section by giving explode command and trimming the section which is
creating the boundary between the two sections by giving trim command.

4) Give region command to make the section one.

5) Set origin to bottom of ISMB400 by giving command ucs and selecting objet .

6) Give command massprop and select the member you will get the AutoCAD Text window
showing the properties of the section but this is with respect to shifted centroid at the bottom
of the ISMB400, we want the sectional properties with respect to c.g. of the section so weve to
change the centroid

7) Centroid can be changed by giving the same command ucs, and selecting object and giving the
coordinates as , 0 ,210.0285, 0 . This will shift the centroid to 0,0,0 and now again giving the
massprop command we will get the properties of section with respect to c.g. of the section.

You can check that now centroid is 0,0. Please note that all the dimensions are in mm.
