Evidence Log

What is it?
An evidence log is a way for students to organize and revisit evidence they
collect. It can be used for writing prompts or research questions. In this
activity, it will be used to keep track of evidence students collect in their
research.

Introduction
a. Introduce the evidence logs to students before delving into the
research. Explain that as you research questions, students will
record textual evidence to use when they choose two
perspectives to write about.
b. Evidence logs can be a notebook or notebook paper.
Collecting evidence
a. As students begin their research, encourage them to come up
with a research question. For each research question, they can
note the evidence that answers that question.
b. Information that should be included for each source is:
i. Author
ii. Title
iii. Publisher
iv. Date
v. Page
vi. Type of source
