REMIGIO
DATA COLLECTION

In a qualitative research study, the researcher serves as the primary data collection
instrument (Patton, 2015). The following approaches were used to gather data for this study:
observations and documentation. Documents were obtained from all participants of the
group/study and reviewed as supplementary analysis methods. The observations were conducted
in the same setting in which members of the group/study usually complete their online classes.
The researchers analyzed the data in this analysis to come up with something that addresses and
answers the research questions/objectives.

Observation

Observation, particularly participant observation, has been used in a variety of disciplines as a

tool for collecting data about people, processes, and cultures in qualitative research (Kawulich, 2005).
Observations were conducted by the researchers during the third quarter of 2 nd Semester.
Observations are assumptions, meaning to say, researchers will use assumptions to try to decode
what the senior high school students (in our section) is trying to say through their actions during
their experiences in online classes.

Due to the pandemic, we observed the senior high school students through their actions
during online classes and how they are reacting to the on-going class, in simple terms, we
observed them right in our houses with the use of video meetings, video calls, and chats. Upon
our observation, we have taken down notes and everything that will surely help in the research
study. Participants' research patterns, a review of the physical world in which they were
studying, and how actively or inactively interested they were in their online learning were all
included in the notes.

Documentation

Nordquist (2019) stated that documentation is the evidence provided for information and
ideas borrowed from others. That evidences includes both primary sources and secondary
sources (Nordquist, 2019). Primary sources includes archives and manuscripts, photographs,
journals, and published books. Secondary Sources includes journals articles, textbooks,
dictionaries, books, etc. These records were gathered as research data sources.
Each member of the research group submitted different documents that is in relationship
with our topic. The documents used came from the newspapers, journals, articles, dictionaries
and textbooks. This documents were used to strengthen our research study and to give
accountability and credibility to it, with of course the use of our observations as well. We took a
close look on how senior high school similarly retort to online classes and what is actually
happening within the on-going online classes.
