TheAdoptaSoldierprogramisbasicallyestablishingapenpalrelationshipwithaservicememberinhopes
thatgivingthesoldiersomeonetotalktoontheoutsidewillallowthemtofeelincludedandsupported.

Goal of the Project

Themaingoalofourprojectistogetthecommunitytoengagewithpastorpresentservicemembersto
showourappreciationfortheiramazingdedicationtoourcountry.Oftentimes,servicemembersfeelasthough
theyarealoneandmissingoutonthelivesandworldoutsideoftheirbase.Wewanttohelpcontributeto

decreasingthenumbersofthosewhogainmentalillnessessuchasdepression,anxiety,stress,andPTSDby
givingthesewonderfulpeoplesomeonetotalktoontheoutsideandmakethemfeelincluded.

Steps to complete the project:

Within these steps you need to clearly identify what will be completed/ accomplished this
year and what will be completed/ accomplished next year.
1. Tostart,wewanttogetincontactwithlocalorganizationstoheartheirideas/opinionsonourproject
2. Wemightsendoutapolltoseehowmanypeoplemightbeinterestedinparticipatinginaprogramthat
closelyengageswithservicemembers.
3. WeplantotestouttheAdoptaSoldierorganizationtodeterminewhetheritwouldbeanachievable
servicelearningprojectforourjunioryear.
4. Ifwebelievethattheorganizationmeetsourstandards,weplantopresenttheprojecttotheschoolto
encouragestudentsandstafftosignupandparticipate.
5. Wellsetupmeetingtimeandplaceforthosewhosignedupandwillcontinuetodiscussprogresswith
theAdoptaSoldierorganization.
6. BesidestheAdoptaSoldierproject,wellsetupeventsthatcoordinatewithVeteransandMemorial
Daytohonorservicemembers.
7. Astheyearcomestoanend,wellencouragethemembersofourprogramtocontinuewiththeAdopta
Soldierprogrambutwillleaveituptothemtodecidewhetherthey'dliketocontinueintonextyearor
not.
8. SenioryearwewillcontinueusingtheAdoptaSoldierprogramifitisaccessibleandsuccessful.
9. Oncestudentsandstaffdeveloparelationshipwithsoldiersorthemilitaryinsomeway,wewillrequest
thatpeopledonateitemsforcarepackagesthatwillthenbesenttosoldiersoverseas.
10. Wewillcontactlocalorganizationsaswell,suchasdentistsanddermatologists,tocollectmore
supplies.
11. Additionally,wewillhavestudentsandstaffatBACSwriteletterstosoldiersoverseasthankingthem
fortheirservice.Theletterswillthenbeplacedinthecarepackagesbeingsentoverseas.

Timeline for the project:

Thisyear,wewillcontactlocalorganizationsandsendoutapolltodeterminewhowillbeinterestedin
engagingintheAdoptaSoldierorganizationwithus,(Steps1and2).Tocontinueourproject,weplantotest
outtheAdoptaSoldierorganizationtobecomefamiliarwithhowitworksandthesignupprocess.Wewill
eachcommittoatrialrunwiththeorganizationthissummertomakesurethatitisachievableandsomething

thatwecouldaskstudentsatBlackstonetodo,(Step3).Iftheorganizationlivesuptoourstandards,wewill
createpresentationsfortheschooltoexpressourdesireforBACSstudentsandstafftosignupfortheAdopta
Soldierorganization,(Step4).Fortheremainderofourjunioryearwewillcompletesteps47.
