Photocopy Worksheet Starter Unit for each student.

Procedure

Students can work in pairs or small groups.

Ask them to look at the 28 words and put them into 7 groups of 4.
Monitor and help where needed.
Finally, check the groupings and explain any words that the students dont understand (or have forgotten).
For homework you could ask students to add one or two more words to each category.

Note: Students may not know the category headings in English. Allow them to use their own words to describe the
groupings.

Photocopy Worksheet Starter Unit for each student.

Procedure

On the board write up the following four words:

One Five Car Ten
Ask the students which one is the Odd one out i.e. doesn't belong to the group. (Car)
Ask the students to explain why. (All the other words are numbers.)
Next, ask the students to work in pairs and hand out the worksheet.
Set a time limit of 4 minutes for the activity.
The students should decide which word is the odd one out in each group.
Check as a class.
