sports coach actor social worker tour group leader

university lecturer nurse sales person driving instructor

Section Two: Dealing with language (Spend 15 minutes on this section)

Look at the teaching material and complete the following tasks

a) Engaging adult learners

Imagine you are going to use this material with a group of students. Usually, before students open
their books, teachers try to generate interest in the lesson topic.

In this case, the topic is education.

Devise an activity that would get the students interested in this topic and get them talking to each
other.
b) Helping learners with grammar

Look at these two sentences from the text.

a) They were always asking questions about my lessons. (lines 13-14)

b) There used to be just eight pupils. (line 16)

Look at the words in bold. For each sentence decide why Babur uses this grammar. Think about how
you can simply and clearly convey this to your learners.

c) Helping learners with vocabulary

Look at these 3 items of vocabulary from the text.

(i) a village (line 2) (ii) do household chores (line 30) (iii) bursting with pride (line
40)

Choose two of the above and decide the most effective and efficient way to help learners
understand the meaning.
