Summary
For a while the game slowed down a bit because of Scouts constant
nagging at Jem. Dill claims that he loves Scout, but later neglects her.
Most of the summer Scout spent her time sitting on the porch with Miss
Maudie, but only when Scout wasnt needed in the game. Miss Maudie
claims that Boo Radley is still alive, and was a very kind person as a
child. When Scout hears this, she is astonished because of all the
terrible rumors she has heard about Boo. After learning this, Scout told
Jem and Dill and they all decided to give Boo a note. They went to his
house in the morning with a fishing pole and attempted to put the note
on the house. While they were doing this, Atticus caught them and
lectured them about not disturbing Mr. Radley.

Scout Finch: narrator, jems sister, Atticus daughter
Jem Finch: Scouts older brother, arrogant, hyper
Atticus Finch: Jem and Scouts father, lawyer
Dill: Real name is Charles Baker Harris, comes to Maycomb
county every summer and stays with his aunt
Miss Maudie Atkinson: The Finch's neighbor, nice lady, lets the
kids play in her yard.
Mr. Radley: peculiar man, Boos Father

Significant Event
In chapter 5 a significant event that occurs is Dill and Jem
reveal their plans to Scout for contacting Boo Radley. For
most of the summer Dill and Jem have been having secret
conversations in their tree house and leaving Scout out.
Finally she has had enough and demands they let her in on
their conversation. They reveal that they are planning to
contact Boo Radley. They take a fishing pole and attach a
letter to the end of it. Jem shoves it at the window but cant
get the letter of the end. Atticus catches them in the act and
tells them to leave the Radleys alone.
