Correction/Action (cont.)
b. (effective) Make sure the transmission output bearing cover has provisions
for two push-in style (non-adjustable) output speed sensors. A push-in
style speed sensor must be installed specifically for use by the Lightning
transmission. A second low-output/low gain push-in speed sensor (Eaton
P/N A-7421) must be added to provide VSS information for the Optimized
Idle system. Reference Lightning Illustrated Parts List (TRIP-0586) for
specific bearing cover P/Ns.
2) Engine Configuration for Transmission_ID:
The transmission ID must be set at #0 Manual. This configuration will allow
transmission and engine communication over J1939 but force the engine to
use the separate (hard-wired) speed sensor for engine VSS information.
Warranty Statement: The above transmission configuration changes are
required to allow the DDEC Optimized Idle system to operate correctly. Eaton
does not accept any responsibility for transmission failures or costs associated
with changes to the transmission to accommodate this vehicle-related system.
Please contact Detroit Diesel for technical assistance for any issues regarding
the Optimized Idle system.
