Questions and Information (includes observational questions, interpretative questions, and

selected information):
What is the purpose of this writing?
How does this writing make you feel?
-How does you believe the author felt when he or she wrote this?
What would you consider this to be (in terms of art forms)?
What would you title this?
-What's the purpose of a title?
Information: How does this version of the same poem make you feel? (show 2014 version).
Your art creates an awareness for the need of transformation in communities around the world.
When you share your art, it comes from your perspective, your view of life. Art is personal, but
it is also about the people you hope to get your art too. The author (Rankine) showed that she
was a prophetic artist who was concerned with the change that needed to occur and still hasn't
occurred.
Using what we just talked about I want the class to take out your journals or your form of art
and to write, draw, color your view of the world. Use words, descriptions, colors, expressions, etc
that can lead a person who doesn't know you to understand how you may or may not feel.

Notes for Investigation (may include information students might ask for, follow-up questions,
or tips from troubleshooting section of website):
Why did the author write this?
Why are writings like these important?
What do you notice is happening to the words on the page? Is there a meaning to this fading of words?
