Scenario
The pixels that are a Manchester based band who have recently had a successful career in and around
Manchester for the last five years. They have been offered a record deal from a record company that
needs publicity. I have been asked to create a web banner to raise awareness online of a national tour
that the pixels are due to embark on. Before creating the banner, the bands management company
would like me to produce a proposal as well as detailed design work.

Client needs
We have had a client meeting so that we know no what the client is looking for in the final product, we
have been given the scenario and from that along with the client meeting we have been given an idea of
what it is that the client wants us to make and what it is that they want it to look like, the clients needs
are the basics of what it is that the client want us to create, therefore the objective of this project was to
create a web banner for the band The Pixels and make it appealing to the audience that the band is
targeted at.

Aesthetic Quality
To produce an affective web banner for the band it will need to
include their signature look as well as the genre of the band and
what their colour scheme if going to be, seen as Pixels are pop
punk band I want this to be seen through their colour scheme this
is why it will be darker colours and the images that are going to be
used through will all be dark colours or in black and white this is so
that it all ties in with the layout and look of the project. The reason
for the dark colours is to give a feel of the musics as pop punk
although is up beat the actual lyrics are meaningful. The image to
the left is an idea of what the band looks like and also as you are
able to see the atmosphere that the band gives off by the reaction
of the crowed. This image is the bases of what my whole final project design will look like.

Colours
In all of the banners that I have looked at the colours are relevant to the genre as in if it is rock music
then the colours tend to be dark. This is a method that I will used as I feel seen as the band is Alternative
rock a feel as in dark colours will be more appropriate that
bright yellows, blues and greens. Through my banner there will
be the same colour scheme as well as background that fits in
with that colour scheme as I feel if the background changes too
much then this will be distracting from the information that

Include Music and Sound

I will include a demo of the music that the band will play as this is going to be the best way for people to
decide if they like the band or not by actually listening to what the band sounds like. The song will be
Secrets as this song is the most recently released by the band so that people will get a hear for their most
recent music as they may not know when the band first started to release music. Also when bands

release new music it is often that the style can also change so if people listen to some older released
songs then they might not like the newer songs that are being released by the band. However, this music
will not play automatically and it will be a choice for the user to listen to it as under the web banner there
will be a little media player where they will be able to play the music from. The screen shot below is an
example of what the music player bar could look like.

Visual Style
After looking at different banner sizes and types I have decided that this is going to be the main aspect as
this is going to most likely be the first impression that people are going to have of the band so therefore I
need the banner to give a good first impression and make it so that it isnt misleading, I will use the
colour scheme that has been chosen of the band as I feel that this is what is going to give people an
impression of what genre the band is just by the way that it is represent with the colours. To make my
web banner as useful to other people it will include some information to do with the band as in where it
is they are playing and ticket prices along with when it will be. The colour scheme is going to be purple,
pink and blue along with dark blue writing. The font that I am going to use for the band name is going to
be

Pristina as I think that this font looks really good especially with the colour scheme and the

background image that I am going to use, the image that I

will use fits in with my colour scheme and also fits in with
the name of the band as the colour scheme is the same
and has 3D octagon shapes coming out of the ground with
a person standing at the top of them this is going to be my
web banner background however I will use I slightly off
shot for my web animation.

Layout
The layout will be very clear and in boxes and look very neat this is not only to make it look more
professional and easy to navigate through for the user this is also going to help the band if it is a clear
layout as people will often give up if they are unable to find what it is that they want within a few
minutes where as if it is obvious where the tickets are and they are easy to find then people wont have
to search for them and therefore giving the user a better and less stressful experience. The block colour
of background will be the same through and the main layout will be spaced out in square or rectangle
text boxes and images with a border of a lighter purple.

Images
The images that I will use will be relevant to the genre of the band I will incorporate them into my design
and the layout so that they look as part of the project and fit in well, I will do this by using image that
have the same colour scheme as the whole of my project along
with that fit in with what the project is about. As a general idea
the image will be pictures the crowd and showing people
having a good time as this is what will make people want to pay
to see the band as they will be able to see the atmosphere of
actually being there. Some of the image that I do plan on using
are copyright so therefore I will need permission to us them. An
example of the image that I plan to use are going to be image
like this that are going to be the setting of the band stage
layout along with fitting in with colour scheme.

Demographic
Demographic is what the entire theme and style will be formed around. It will also determine the
personality and character of the chosen costumer. The client has specified who the demographic is which
is 16 to 30 year olds and the demographic is people who like pop punk music as this is the genre of The
Pixels. Research should be conducted to find out what will attract the people we want to the band. A
demographic is important to determine as we want at least one person to be attracted to the band. I
conducted the research by looking at other websites
with a similar demographic so I look at the imagine
dragons website
https://www.imaginedragonsmusic.com/ as although
it is in the alternative rock genre it is often that people
who like alternative rock also like pop punk.

format
Once I have completed the production stage I will save
the animated banner in a format that is suitable for it
being used online. Seen as it is being used for a
website it is important that it is a small file size so that it can be loaded as fast as possible. The format will
be one that belongs to flash as that is what I will be using to create it These formats include .FLA which is
what I will be using to save my animation as .FLA allows me to still work on the animation if I have not
finished it as I feel it will take me a few sessions to create a web banner to the standard that I want. Once
I have completed the web banner and it is finishes to the stander I want I will then export it as a .SWF this
is a vector file format. This file will also allow for my animation to play as soon as the web site is opened.

Legal & Ethical& CODES OF

PRACTICE
When creating a web banner it is important to understand the legal and ethical rights as you are creating
an advertisement for a band The Pixels as you are creating something that will be seen by many people
and if something is done wrong or a right is breached than it could be seen as offensive to people as it is
going to be seen by a large number of people especially as it is going to be on the internet as well, written
below is the legal and ethical laws and rights along with the codes of practice

Legal Considerations
Copyright Laws: Originated from the United Kingdom as a concept of common law. The current act is
called the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act 1988. The rights that are covered within the law are
broadcasting and public performance, adapting, copying, issuing, renting and lending copies to the public.
The law also gives the Creators of literary, musical, sound recordings, artist work, dramatic, films,
broadcasts and typographical arrangement of published editions and the rights to control the way that
their material is used. In some cases, the creator will also have the right to be identified for their work.
Along with the main copyrights there are also different sub-category for the different types of work that
are done:

Dramatic- plays, dance etc.

Literary- manuscripts, manuals, song lyrics, commercial documents, computer programs, leaflets,
articles & newsletters etc.
Typographical arrangement of published editions- magazines etc.
Artistic- maps, logos, architecture, painting, photography, technical drawings/diagrams.
Sound recording- this might be other copyright works e.g. literary & musical
Film- films, video footage, cable programmes and broadcasts.

I wasnt until 1992 that the rules where extended to cover literary works and include computer programs.
More information can be found at: https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/p01_uk_copyright_law
With all of the laws against things that you cant do it is often hard to understand where the laws dont
apply and to make sure that you arent braking any. Acts that are allowed:

Criticism and news reporting.

Private and research study purposes
Producing a backup copy for your own personal use

The person employed is the one who retains Copyright

With images there is always an option to used stock photos, this is where the owner of the
images has decided to let the images be freely used by the public, however you are able to by
the asset/ pay for it this does not mean that you have bought the copyright just the right to use
that image.
With software, when you purchase a package it means that you have purchased a license to use
the package legally. The purchased license is usually only for one computer. However, if you do
use the same disc to upload the same software on another computer then you will still need to

buy another license in order to use the software legally. There are some software packages that
can be bought that contain mulit-user licenses this will apply to a certain number of users that
will be able to log into a network and use the software/ program at any one time. Once this
number is met then no more people will be able to log onto the software until someone else logs
off. Packages like these are especially useful for business and schools. Where a large number of
people may need to accesses the software at one time. It is also more likely when people see
there is multi-user license option they will be more likely to comply with the law as it is often
more expensive to buy single license for each individual user. It also makes it easier as a copy of
the program can be loaded on to multiple computers in a particular office or school. However,
the client must be made aware of the limitations.
In my project I must apply all of these considerations and also that if any of the above are breached then
they are made fully aware and kept informed.

Ethical Considerations

You are not allowed to use an image; video or sound clip off anyone unless you have their
permission to do so beforehand (this is sometimes needed in writing)
You are not allowed to make a verbal statement about an individual that could be seen as
abusive or harmful to their own reputation. (Slander)
You are not allowed to make a written statement about a single individual that could be seen as
abusive or harmful to their own reputation (Libel)
You are not allowed to use any part of another persons work and pass it off as you own or the
whole thing without there written permission beforehand (Copyright Laws)
You also have to be careful in how you represent as well as describe the characters and content
in your own work as you must make sure that within your work you are both unbiased and
accurate. This applies to:
Gender (Male & Female)
Race (Black, White & Asian)
Disability (able bodied & otherwise)
Sexuality (Homosexual & Heterosexual)
Class (Working, Middle or Upper)
Nationality (British or otherwise)
Regionalism (North & South)
Age (Old & Young)

All of the above mean that you are not allowed/cannot in anyway suggest, at all that one of these groups
is inferior to another and if you do then production may not be allowed to be seen/shown as it will be
breach of this rule. There are some laws that work alongside these rules for example The Race Relations
Act.
It is essential that when I am designing and planning my project that take into consideration all of the
points that I have put above as well as ensured that all of the acts are complied with. Most of the points
that I have put above are just sensible considerations but I will check that the client is aware of all of
these points and considers them as and when is necessary.
I will look at the following codes of practice that the client needs to be aware of.

Ofcom
This stands for Office of
Communications also known as
Ofcom, it is the government-approved
regulatory and competition authority
for the broadcasting,
telecommunications and postal
industries of the United Kingdom.
Ofcom has a statutory duty to

consumers by promoting and
protecting the public from any
material that might be considered
harmful of offensive. Some other
main areas of Ofcom are licensing,
research, policies, codes, competition and protecting the radio spectrum from abuse. Above on the right
is a screenshot taken from the Ofcom website.

The regulator was established by the Office of Communications Act of 2002 and then later received its full
authority from the Communications Act in 2003.

The PCC is a voluntary body of people for British printed newspapers and magazines. The Press
Complaints Commission is funded by an annual levy it charges newspapers and magazines. However, the
PCC has no legal power and all of the magazines and newspapers voluntarily contribute to the costs of
and adhere to the rulings of the commission, this is what makes the industry self-regulating.
