ADVENTURE CAVES

BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL

For your safety and the safety of the cave you must be accompanied by a World Heritage Park Guide.
Adventure caving involves varying degrees of difficulty. All participants require a reasonable level of physical fitness
and the ability to be underground in small dark places. Caving at Mulu often involves wading across rivers or
streams, squeezing between rocks and crevices, swimming through underground rivers, and of course, getting
covered in dirt.
Caves have been rated as beginners, intermediate and advanced. Visitors to those caves with an advanced rating
require previous experience. (See the advice below)

LAGANG CAVE - Intermediate Level. (not suitable for children under 12 years of age)
Length approx. 1km Suitable for the inexperienced.

This is a beautiful cave with many stalactites, stalagmites and wonderful examples of cave sediments. Equipped with
helmets and torches you scramble over boulders and along ancient rivers beds. Experience the thrill of seeing this
underground world by torchlight and the anticipation of what is around the next dark corner. There is no climbing in
this cave which makes this is a great adventure, ideal for family groups.
COST

Rm160 per person which includes a longboat trip return to Park HQ

RACER CAVE - Intermediate Level. (not suitable for children under 12 years of age)
Length approx. 1km Suitable for the inexperienced.
This often depends on the size of the group, the more people in the group the longer it will take (the maximum is 6)
Lights and helmets are provided but you will get muddy so bring old clothes and good walking shoes. The guide will
lead you through the cave climbing up and down the passageways with the aid of ropes. This cave can require some
upper body strength but most people are successful. Enjoy the great feeling that comes with discovering your
abilities and meeting a physical challenge.

CLEARWATER REVIVAL - Intermediate Level. (not suitable for children under 12 years of age)
Length approx. 1.5km Suitable for the inexperienced.
Clearwater River Revival Tour will take you on a journey through the ancient underground river into areas only our
most advanced cavers usually experience. By entering and exiting the system through the boardwalks of Clearwater
Cave this tour is suitable for intermediate cavers with confidence in water and rock climbing. The adventure begins
when you step off the show cave boardwalk and into the cool, clear waters that have been carving out the expansive
200km of passages in the Clearwater system for over 2 million years. Depending on the water levels you will wade,
swim and climb to the far reaches of Clearwater Cave and return via the same passage.
Packaged with a longboat ride and picnic lunch, we think Clearwater Revival will be a hot favourite for our adventure
caving enthusiasts in 2015!
* Please note that this tour is weather dependent as high river levels prevent access into the river systems of
Clearwater Cave.

CLEARWATER CONNECTION Advance Level. (not suitable for children under 16 years of age and all
participant must be able to swim)
Length approx. 4.8km.
This trip is relatively long (4.8 kilometres) and depending on levels of fitness takes between 4 to 8 hours. The larger
the number of people in the group the longer the trip will take (up to 10 hours).
The tour begins in the show cave section of Wind Cave before leaving the constructed trail and moving into a wild
cave chamber off of the Kings Chamber in Wind Cave. The route taken is over highly broken terrain that includes
strewn boulders and requires some climbing up and clambering down short faces. Areas that are hazardous have
fixed ropes attached and guides carry personal ropes to assist visitors in short sections that require climbing. The
tour continues on for about one kilometre before arriving at the show cave section of Clearwater Cave. For many the
river is the highlight of the tour being exceptionally beautiful and refreshing following the hard caving .
The Clearwater Connection tour is weather dependent, as it is not safe to run the tour when the water levels in the
Clearwater River are too high. Reservations are essential, helmets and head lamps are provided.
REQUIRES: SWIMMING ABILITY, REASONABLE LEVEL OF FITNESS, CLOSED IN SHOES, WATERPROOF
CAMERA OR DRYBAG IS NECESSARY FOR THIS TOUR. YOU WILL GET WET!

SARAWAK CHAMBER OVERNIGHT AT CAMP 1 Advance Level. (not suitable for children under
16 years of age and all participant must be able to swim)
New tour for Sarawak Chamber will require you to stay 1 night at Camp 1.
Sarawak Chamber is a particularly challenging tour even for visitors that have good fitness and are experienced
cavers. The tour takes 2 days 1 night, beginning from park headquarters, following the Summit Trail up towards the
southern side of Gunung Api. The trail takes approximately three hours before reaching the mouth of Gua Nasib
Bagus (Good Luck Cave). Before entering the cave, the guide must assess the water levels at the cave mouth as
high water levels make it unsafe. If the water levels are too high, the tour will be cancelled and the group returns to
park headquarters.
If the water level is low enough the tour proceeds for approximately 800 metres along a river channel with sheer rock
faces rising to about 50 metres on either side. Towards the end of the river there is a traverse, using fixed ropes, of
approximately 200 metres. Following the traverse the tour then proceeds up a steep boulder slope to the chamber
itself. The chamber is pitched at a steep angle and the floor is covered in boulders. The tour stops at the mouth of
the chamber.

ADVENTURE CAVES
Following this the group returns to camp 1 via the 1 hour jungle trek and another 3 hours to Park HQ the next day.
REQUIRES: SWIMMING ABILITY, REASONABLE LEVEL OF FITNESS, CLOSED IN SHOES, WATERPROOF
CAMERA OR DRYBAG, MEALS & SLEEPING BAG IS NECESSARY FOR THIS TOUR.
NOTE
Yes Sarawak Chamber is the largest cave chamber in the world; therefore, when you finally get there you will see
nothing but a large black space. It is too large to be lit by any torch light.
CANCELLATION BY THE PARK STAFF
A set of guidelines for Sarawak Chamber must be read and signed before the tour is booked and paid for.

If the trek is cancelled before leaving the Park office then there will be a full refund.

Once you have left the Park Office there will be no refund whatever the reason for the tour not going all the
way to Sarawak Chamber e.g., fitness levels, water levels, and sickness.

If during the trek the guide believes that water levels will be too high in Sarawak Chamber but still suitable at
Drunken Forest or Lagangs (through trip) then the tour will be changed at no extra charge.
COST

Rm280 per person
