ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR UNIT 1 TEACHERS NOTES

Simple descriptive language and language of written greetings used on postcards.


Speaking and Writing
15 minutes
Photocopy and cut up Worksheet 1a to make one pair of postcards per pair of students.

Procedure

Before beginning the activity, write the following on the board:


Student A
The weather ________ ____ fantastic!

Student B
____ ________ here is ____________ !

Ask your students how they think the sentences could be completed.
Now ask your students to get into pairs to tackle the activity.
Give a copy of one Postcard A from Worksheet 1a to one student in each pair, and a copy of the matching Postcard
B to the other student in the pair. (N.B. There are two different postcard pairs provided on the Worksheet you can
either choose which youd prefer your students to use, or have different pairs of students doing different cards.)
Ask each student to read what is on their postcard to their partner. These words are those that are missing from their
partners postcard. By listening to their partner, each student should be able to complete the missing words on his or
her own postcard.

Writing
15 minutes or as homework
Photocopy and cut up Worksheet 1b to make one blank postcard for each student.

Procedure

This is simply a free writing activity. Ask your students to look at the examples of postcards used in Activity 1.1, and
shown in their Students Book (page 10).
Give your students a blank postcard each (from Worksheet 1b). Now ask each student to imagine a place where
they might go on holiday, and to fill in their blank postcard as if writing from their holiday destination to a friend.
You could impose a time limit (15 minutes should do) or perhaps set the activity as homework.
