Learning objectives

: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize shapes and
the characteristics of the shapes based on the things in their
surroundings.

Prior Knowledge

: Students had learned the name of the shapes.

Materials

: Cakes, biscuits, 2D shapes which are made from coloured papers and
realias in the classroom.

Introduction:
1) Teacher asks questions:
- During your birthday, what can you get from your parents?
- What is the thing that you can get besides present?
- It is something that can be eaten.
- It is a cake.
2) Teacher shows cakes and biscuits to the students.
3) Teacher asks questions:
- What is the shape of this cake?
- What about this (biscuit)?
4) Students observe the shape of the cake and biscuit and say the answers.
Teaching point:
1) Teacher pastes 2D shapes on the whiteboard.
2) Teacher says the characteristics of the shapes.
- It does not have vertex. It is circle.
- It has three vertices. It is triangle.
- It has four vertices. It has four sides. The sides are all in same length. It is square.
- It has four vertices. It has four sides. Two of the sides are in same length. It is rectangle.
3) Teacher guides students to say the shape.
4) Teacher points to the shapes while the students say the shape.
5) Teacher asks questions, students answer.
- It has three vertices. What shape is it?
- It does not have vertex. What shape is it?

Guided activity:
1) Teacher gives instruction:
- In the class, you can see a lot of things.
- All of these things have shapes.
- For example, this is my book. It has the shape of rectangle.
- Now, I want you to take one thing from the class.
- After this, I will ask you on the shape of your thing.
- You may go and find now.
2) Students find the things.
3) Teacher guides students to recognize the shape of the things in the class.
4) Teacher asks students to come to the front of the class and introduce their things.
5) Teacher does demonstration:
- This is her pencil case. It has the shape of rectangle.
6) Students come to the front and introduce their things.
7) Teacher guides students.
Independent:
1) Teacher gives plain paper to the students.
2) Teacher asks students to draw the shape of their things.
3) Teacher does demonstration:
- Children, do you still remember what is the shape of this pencil case?
- Yes, it is rectangle.
- So, now I draw the shape of my thing (rectangle) on the paper.
- Then, I spell the name of the shape on the paper.
4) Students draws the shape on the paper.
Closure:
1) Teacher praises students for their efforts.
2) Teacher gives slices of cake and some biscuits to the students as a token to appreciate their efforts.
