Final Year Project Proposal

Project Title:
Copper Electroplating of PCB Plates using PLC
Supervisor:
Dr. Sajid Saleem
Description:
In current circumstances its very difficult to manage automation without any backup/source of
power in case of load shading. If the control system restart during a process, it will start process
from initial instruction. That cause destruction of whole process. For example if you are working
in PCB Manufacturing Plant then you can see that if a PCB take 30 minutes to finalize and
suddenly your system get stop due to load shading after 25 minutes, when power come back
after some time it would start your process from 0 minutes and would take another 30 minutes
to complete this process. At the end, you would get the plastic sheet only but there would be no
more copper because of FeCl3. We going to memorize our control system on every instruction
that it should know that it should start from that position where it get stop and it would not
execute form initial position. For example if process get stop after 25 minutes ,it would start
again from 25 minute and would take 5 minutes to complete this process.
Methodology:
We are not going to use any backup like UPS, Batteries etc. We are going to make this possible
through programming. We are going to implement this on PLC. A Programmable Logic
Controller is a device that a user can program to perform a series or sequence of events. These
events are triggered by inputs received at the programmable logic controller through delayed
actions such as time delays or counted occurrences. Once an event triggers, it actuates in the
outside world by switching on or off electronic control gear or the physical actuation of devices.
A Programmable Logic Controllers will continually loop through its user defined program waiting
for inputs and giving outputs at the specific programmed times.
A program is a connected series of instructions written in a language that the Programmable
Logic Controller can understand. There are three forms of program format for PLCs these are
Ladder (LAD), Functional Block Diagram (FBD) and Statement List (STL). For any process we
use Timer, Counter , Registers etc.
