After doing the literature review and cross referencing the researches done by various researchers

it was concluded that Electroencephalograms (EEG) brain data acquisition system is the need of
hour. Due to capability to reflect both the normal and abnormal electrical activity of the brain,
EEG has been found to be a very powerful tool in the field of neurology and clinical
neurophysiology. While searching for previous research Electroencephalograms (EEG) brain data
acquisition system several interesting fact was known such as :

(M. Teplan, 2002) Electroencephalography belongs to electro biological imaging tools

widely used in medical and research areas. EEG measures changes in electric potentials
caused by a large number of electric dipoles formed during neural excitations. EEG signal
consists of different brain waves reflecting brain electrical activity according to electrode
placements and functioning in the adjacent brain regions.

(M. Ungureanu, C. Bigan, R. Strungaru, V. Lazarescu, 2004) The study proves that ICA
is a powerful tool when the biomedical analysis involved more channels, which is the case
of electroencephalogram and polysomnogram. In this case the important information can
be obtained considering only the relevant signals, obtained after applying the Independent
Component Analysis.

(Muhammad Salehuddin, Suprijanto, Farida 1. Muchtadi, 2011) EEG system developed

using bio- amplifier design from open EEG project. Digital board had worked well to
convert analog signal into digital signal and transferred this digital signal to the computer.
Based on experiment results:
1. Improving the ability low cost EEG on multi channel enough to have the specifications
needed to measure the EEG signal which has 11 V voltage order and frequency from
0.5 to 30 Hz. It can be seen from the results of test specifications that amplification of
each channel more than 6000 times with the slope gradient more than 58 dB / decade
is close to ideal conditions of third order low-pass filter.
2. Prototype of low cost EEG and BrainBay software has great potential for use as
measure brain signals on small-scale laboratory and clinic, because the cost is relatively
cheap and software is open source.
3. With four display patterns of ECG signals simultaneously in the same lead, this
prototype already can be used as an application to measure heart rate at 4 different lead.

4. PSD graph for sleep monitoring, which result from EEG measurements using prototype
low cost EEG 4 channels showing the frequency dominance under the beta wave
(relaxed state), especially 8 Hz - 13 Hz (alpha waves) and 3 Hz -5 Hz (theta waves).

(Surajit Bagchi, Dr. Madhurima Chattopadhyay, 2012) In this present work, the state of
consciousness of human brain is verified by measuring the frequency shift in the Beta ()
frequency range. Significant frequency shifts have been observed with drugs and alcohol
addicted elderly subjects by using this novel approach. The main outcome of this cost
effective gadget lies with its simplicity and novelty of using only two electrodes. Thus, it
may be easily accepted and largely used for alertness monitoring of motor vehicle drivers
in order to avoid unwanted surface accidents. Here, we have adopted FFT for visualizing
the frequency shift of Beta brain waves as a measure of the state of awareness. In future,
we will extend our work by incorporating other transformationtechniques through which
both frequency and time-domain responses can be achieved. Moreover, we will start to use
our proposed device to study the consciousness level of the patients admitted in intensive
care unit (ICU) of any hospital.

(Charles moyes, Mengxiang jiang, 2012) When we were initially brainstorming for the
project, we wanted a full sleep apnea diagnostic machine. This included not only an EEG,
but also heart rate monitor, blood oxygen level monitor, temperature, etc. However, we
immediately realized that doing just the EEG was a very challenging task by itself and so
decided to focus on only that. When we actually created the proposal for the project, we
had many ambitious ideas for what the EEG would do. Some of the ideas were fully
implemented such as reading the Alpha Waves for checking how relaxed or focused you
are, and the Mu Waves which correspond with thoughts of motion. Some of the ideas were
somewhat implemented such as the reading of the P300 signal for identifying color. And
some of the ideas were not implemented at all such as mouse cursor movement, due to time
constraints and technical limitations such as only having 10-bit resolution and one channel,
while most commercial EEGs have much more channels and better resolution. If we were
to do this project again, we might add more channels and try to write a better P300 training
and prediction program.

(Decho Surangsrirat, Aichart Intarapanich, 2013) Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a

valuable tool for clinical and research uses in many scientific fields. However, traditional

devices are usually cost thousands of dollars. The preparation process is also timeconsuming and the device is somewhat uncomfortable to use. It would be beneficial if
newer consumer devices, which are easier to use and considerably cheaper, could be used
for a research as well. In our experiment, we chose a consumer EEG device to record the
brainwave of Buddhist monks during different activities including meditation.

(Rafael Puyol, Gastn Lenzi, Gabriel Barg, Alfredo Arnaud, 2013) The design and
architecture of a portable EEG system has been presented, including some preliminary
results. The design was focused on portability, low power consumption and low noise.
Other features like high frequency sampling, which is desirable for studies involving FFTs
were not part of the objectives. State of the art electronic components such as the INA333
and the XLP MCUs were used. Modern communication technologies were also employed
like a Bluetooth link and a high capacity flash storage. The results show that the proposed
system is capable of recording small EEG signals in the range of microvolts and low
frequencies (below 50Hz).

(Guruprasad Madhale Jadav, Miroslav Vranki and Saa Vlahini, 2015) We have
investigated EEG response to stimuli of acidic and alkaline pH levels, and were able to
show with the time frequency spectrum that the taste perception of the stimuli produces
more high frequency components than the actual stimuli. The cognitive perception of acidic
stimuli produces relatively more high frequency components than cognitive perception of
alkaline stimuli., we show that taste stimulation and perception can be used as cognitive
control tasks and be observed using a simple gaming headset. Our future work will aim
towards implementing these cognitive perceptions into control tasks.

(Vikash kumar, raj kumar, 2015) This report deals with the designing of an
Electroencephalography (EEG) data acquisition system. EEG is a device used for plotting
the brainwaves of the patient so that the mental patient can be diagnosed accordingly. This
is a complex machine with big setup in the hospital. This machine works on a non-invasive
method of neuro-technology for studying brain behavior. This refers to the spontaneous
brain electrical behavior over a period of time. It is basically used for detection of disorder
like epilepsy, brain death, coma, tumor, stroke, etc.
