ARCHITECTURAL MANIFESTO

Architecture today is focused on aesthetics; on impressing tourists, and showing the power and
wealth of whoever owns it. A great amount of effort and resources go into building these
masterpieces, which end up being massive landmarks for corporations to house their offices in.
However, the most important aspects of architecture are not as apparent.
People spend most of their lives in buildings, therefore these buildings should be carefully built,
not to impress a passerby or to only inspire awe, but to promote the growth and enhance the
experience of those who inhabit it.
In the past few years, architects have started communicating with neuroscientists in order to find
a common ground between the two disciplines. New developments in the field of neuroscience
can help architects understand how to produce schools that are designed specifically for the
efficient development of the human brain. It can help architects design hospitals that are meant to
expedite the healing process, or elderly facilities that make it easier for the elderly to find their
way around the building. Thanks to this alliance between architecture and psychology, architects
can now hope to design a building that responds to human needs at the subconscious level.
