Know who youre writing for and write appropriately for them.
You wouldnt give Game of Thrones to your 5 year old
Consistent Tone
Keep the same tone and style of writing throughout your
story in order not to confuse your readers. Know what style
of writing you want in your story from the beginning and
dont change. Think what would happen if Shakespeare
suddenly wrote like Girlfriend Magazine in the middle of

Character: Each character that you write should have


distinct personalities and distinguishable from one another.
Most of all, your characters should be realistic and
believable.
Write from what you know because then you can get into

Every character should also have a goal in their story, to
push the narrative along.
Make your characters want something even if its just a

Setting: The setting may be the most important part of your
story, as it gives readers the chance to immerse themselves
in the world that you have created and enhances the reading
experience. Your setting should be clear from the beginning

Despite placing much emphasis on these rules of creative writing,
you, as the writer, have the power to bend, buckle and bust these
rules, as long as it is a conscious decision that will enhance your
story. For example, you might deliberately use the wrong spelling
of some words to highlight a dystopian future, or you might play
with structure by adding in a flashback to portray the protagonists
