We use probability almost

every single day of our
lives without even
knowing. From the weather
forecast to which lane you
take while driving and even
what you chose to wear all
use probability.
So what is probability?
Its a mathematical term
used to describe the
likelihood of something
happening
Although we cant actually
predict the future with

Classical Probability
Classical probability is the numerical likelihood
that a specific event will occur, and it is found
through the use of the sample space. Classical
probability can be determined by either
experimental methods or calculation.

Classical probability is based on the following

assumptions:
1. Randomness: ALL outcomes are equally likely
(they have the same probability of occurring).
2. Definiteness: ALL possible outcomes are
identified and can be counted.

CLASSICAL PROBABILITY FORMULA

Probabilities can be expressed as fractions,

decimals, or percentages.
There are specific rules for rounding probabilities. In
the case of fractions, they should be expressed in
their reduced form. In the case of decimals, they
should be rounded to the third decimal place. If the
decimal was extremely small (ex: 0.0000000076), it
is acceptable to round to the first non-zero digit (ex:
0.000000008).

AND vs. OR
AND = at the
same time
(simultaneously).
OR = either one.

Probability Rules

1. The probability of any event E is number (either

fraction or decimal) between and including 0 and 1.
2. The sum of the probabilities of all the outcomes in a
sample space is 1.
3. If an event E cannot occur, its probability is 0.
4. If an event E is certain, then the probability of E is
one.

Complementary Events

The sample space consists of the outcomes

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
The event (A) of numbers is 5 and 6.
The even of not getting 5 or 6 is called the
complement of event (A).
