Wemaynothavethebestwhitesandbeaches,wemaynothavethefanciesthotels,butwehave
everythinginthemiddlethatwillequallysatisfythecravingsoftheintrepidtraveler.Letstravel

areapassingbytheOrtigasExtensionroute.IfyourecomingfromQuezonCityarea,thereare
TanayboundjeepneysinCubaoAliMall.ReachingTanaywouldtakeapproximately23hours
dependingonthedayandthetrac,butstartingyourjourneyearlywoulddenitelysaveyou
sometime.
FromCainta,Tanaytookusaboutanhourbeforewegotoatthetownstransportterminal
wherewewillneedatricycletotakeustoourdestinations.However,overchargingtricycle
driversisacommoncaseaccordingtoaladywebumpedintothejeepsoshewalkedustowards
theterminalwhereshethinkswouldgiveusareasonablefee.

exerciseareawheretheycanenjoythefreshmorningair.AtthepeakoftheGrooisa180degree
breathtakingviewoftheLagunaLakewherealongrangeofmountainssurroundtheabundant
bodyofwater.Thisgrooisonlyoneofthe3GroosthatIknowinthearea,ReginaRicain
Sampalocholdsa70foottallstatueoftheBlessedMother,whichunfortunatelywewerentableto
visit.

road.OurjourneywentontopaveduphillsandarduousroughroadsuntilwereachedBaranggay
TandangKutyowhereCalinawanCaveislocated.Carryingourpacksonourbackanda
ashlightinhandwewentdowntothesmallentranceofthecave.AccordingtoMarilou,ourkind
guide,CalinawanCaveisaprivatepropertywhichbelongtohergreatgreatgreatgrandmother
tracingbackherrootsduringthetimeoftheSpanishColonialera.Thecaveonceservedasa
strongholdfortheRevolutionariesduringtheSpanishandAmericandaysandshelterduringthe
Japaneseoccupation,nowitsafavoriteshootinglocationamongTVandmovieproducersand

exceptforthehugenumberofvisitorsandtheloudvideokeechoingaroundthearea.Toavoid
thecrowd,wewenttoariver,followeditupstreamandseledonasmallpoolenclosedbyrocks
enjoyingthemorepeacefulenvironment.Thebesttimetovisittheplacewouldprobablyona
regularweekdayifyouwanttoexperienceapeacefultimewithMotherNature.
