Teachers in rural schools have difficulties in using textbooks in their ESL classroom.
Discuss the problems they may face in using the textbooks and how they can overcome
these problems.

Based on your experience gathered during practicum, discuss to what extent resources
can help to enhance the teaching of English in the Malaysian primary ESL classroom.

Discuss to what extent, the knowledge of advantages and disadvantages of ELT

materials would be useful for English language teachers in the Malaysian primary ESL
classroom.

Discuss the factors that you would consider when selecting ELT materials for a
Malaysian primary ESL classroom.

Design a complete checklist that can be used in selecting and evaluating ELT materials.
Provide appropriate justification for the design.

There are many different ways of approaching the process of reviewing textbooks.
Suggest a set of criteria that can function as a set of guidelines in choosing and
evaluating a textbook. Elaborate with appropriate examples.

Discuss as to how teachers can use the knowledge of various forms of adaptation to
help them use authentic materials in the Malaysian primary ESL classroom.

To what extent the factors involved in adaptation are considered when preparing
effective ESL materials.

Explain the implications and limitations of using teacher made materials in the language
classroom.

Decisions available to teachers include the following (adapted from Harmer, 2001 and
Lamie, 1999);

Add activities to those already suggested.

Leave out activities that do not meet your learners needs.
Replace or adapt activities or materials with:
- supplementary materials from other commercial texts
- authentic materials (newspapers, radio reports, film etc.)
- teacher-created supplementary materials
Change the organization structure of the activities, for example, pairs, small groups or
whole class.

Elaborate with appropriate examples.
