I. Introduction

Learning, as we know, can be considered as the process by which

skills, attitudes, knowledge and concepts are acquired, understood,
applied and extended.

All human beings, whether grownups or children engage in the

process of learning, consciously, sub-consciously or subliminally. It is
through learning that their competence and ability to function in their
environment get enhanced. It is important to understand that while we
learn some ideas and concepts through instruction or teaching, we also
learn through our feelings and experiences. Are a tangible part of our
lives and these greatly influence what we learn.

Warm Up

GOING TO THE MOON

This is a guessing/deductive game in which the first person establishes

a word pattern for everyone else to figure out. He or she says, Im
going to the moon and Im going to take (name an object). Everyone
else follows by repeating the same phrase but naming a different
object with the same pattern. Patterns could include words that start
with the same letter as the speaking persons name, words with double
consonants, or words that begin with the last letter of the previous
word.

Cooperative learning

Cooperative learning is a successful teaching strategy in which small

teams, each with students of different levels of ability, use a variety of
learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject. Each
member of a team is responsible not only for learning what is taught
but also for helping teammates learn, thus creating an atmosphere of
achievement. Students work through the assignment until all group
members successfully understand and complete it.

Is a group helping each other team but keeping each individual

member accountable for his/her learning. Group Works using collective
effort.

CHARACTERISTIC FEATURE

It has two IMPORANTANT Components:

A cooperative incentive structure- one or two more individual are
independent for a reward. They will share if they are successful
as a group.
Cooperative Task Structure- a situation in which two or more
individual are allowed, encouraged or required to work together
on some task, coordinating their efforts to complete task.
Sub topics about Characteristic Feature of Cooperative Learning
Students work in team to tackle academic task.
Reward systems are group-oriented rather than individually-
oriented.
The interaction within a group is controlled by members
themselves.
Teams are made up of mixed abilities high, average and low
achievers.
Each individual learner is accountable for his/her learning.
The group reflects on and evaluates the group process they
underwent.

Guidelines for its Effective use:

1. Heterogeneous Grouping.
Average and low achievers are mixed in a group.
2. Make sure that the student exhibit the necessary social skills to
work cooperatively in group situation.
3. Arrange the furniture.
4. Provide adequate learning tools so as not to make others wait
they are needed.
5. Encourage students to assume responsibility for individual and
group learning by offering rewards for achieving.
6. Make sure each group understands the goal, procedures, task
and method of evaluation.

Advantage of Cooperative Learning

Interdependent

Peer tutoring/ Peer Teaching

Peer teaching involves students learning from and with each other in
ways which are mutually beneficial and involve sharing knowledge,
ideas and experience between participants. The emphasis is on the
learning process, including the emotional support that learners offer
each other, as much as the learning itself.

The best way to learn something is to teach it

Is a learning with
the help of a classmate tutor who belongs more or less to same
age or group.

Arrangement of Tutoring

tutor and tutee.
Same age Tutoring
Monitoring Tutoring- Divied to groups with a leader.
Structural Tutoring-
Semi-Structural Tutoring

Instructional Characteristic

1. The tutees receive individualized instruction. The tutees are

provided with their own teacher. As such as they are checked
reward instantly for correct responses.
2. Receive more instruction. They are afforded more contact hours
by a tutor.
3. Rapport between tutor and tutee may be readily established
considering that they belong more or less to the same age
group.
4. The teacher is free at the same time to do other classroom
chores while the members are being handled by the tutors.
5. Reduce a large to smaller class
6. Easy to discipline
7. Cooperation and Camaraderie reciprocity
8. Excellent in learning situation.
9. Improve Self concept
Guidelines for Tutor
1.Care
2. Go around and observe.
3.Tap Students
4. Explain well
5.Tutor must confer to the teacher
6.Prepare both the tutor and tutees
7.Tutor must be competence.

Partner Learning

Guidelines for its effective USE:

Give them time. (two to five minutes).Give less time.
