Chapter Standards 2010 (Comp)
Chapter Standards 2010 (Comp)
Mission Statement
The Virginia Chi chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon demands dedication from its members
to ensure that the chapter operates smoothly and keep a good relationship with the Virginia
Commonwealth University’s Greek Office. In adopting this document, each member will
observe a system of standards that will hold them accountable for both their actions as a brother
of this chapter.
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to enable the chapter to hold its members accountable
for attendance, scholarship, community service, and commitment to Sigma Alpha Epsilon. By
adopting this document, the Executive Council will be able to constantly review the membership
of the chapter by having a concrete system that will accurately measure the effort put toward the
chapter by each individual member.
This document will not conflict with any bylaws, local or national, and will enable the
chapter to measure the strengths and weaknesses of each brother. There will be no punishments
inherent in this document that could take effect without the participation and approval of the
Executive Council of the chapter. All disciplinary measures will be carried out according to the
fraternity’s bylaws, and due process will be followed on all accounts.
Provisions
Knowledge of this document, and its expectations, must be made apparent to each pledge
of the chapter, and this document should be reviewed by each pledge as part of the New Member
Education Program. Upon initiation into the chapter, each New Member must agree to the terms
of this document, and follow the criteria thereof throughout the rest of his time as an active
brother of the Virginia Chi Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
A record of each brother’s copy of this document should be kept in the Eminent Deputy
Archon’s Officer Binder, and should be updated and signed by the Eminent Archon whenever
necessary. Additionally, each brother must sign their copy of this document in order for the
terms of the Standards Document to be in effect. Finally, each brother’s point totals shall be
publically available to all brothers of the Virginia Chi chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon through
the chapter’s website..
Each area will have four (4) degrees of achievement. The first (1) degree will cover a
minimum level of commitment expected by the chapter, and the fourth (4) degree will represent
going above and beyond the expectations of the chapter. Whenever a degree is fulfilled by a
brother, that brother earns one “point” per level of the degree. Points will be tallied and kept
track of by the Executive Council, as well as on the chapter website. At the end of each semester,
each brother’s points will be added up and they will create an accurate representation of that
brother’s activity over the course of the semester.
Point Totals:
The following point totals will bear certain incentives:
Special Provision:
At the discretion of either the chapter, or the executive council, an upcoming event (at
least a week in advance) may be declared a “Phoenix Event.” An event such as this will grant
any attending brother (1) point towards his cumulative total.
