Youngster stabbed in high school Thursday 22nd of April 2010

A student from Valparaiso was stabbed


yesterday at his high school by a fellow
classmate, who was also injured and arrested
by police.

The Mayor, Christian Herrera, head of the


Second Central Police Station, said the
incident occurred around 10.00 am in the
dining hall of the mixed secondary school,
Matilde Brandau.

The 8th grade student, RCV, 13, was in line

hospital director, Guillermo Pardo, he has a stab wound in the kidney area
and will be given a scan to rule out further injury.

The assailant, who had a history of receiving and was arrested by police,
suffered a cut finger and a broken bone in his right hand. The knife was
located by SIP police near the campus.

TESTIMONY

his face: "He took my place in line and I asked him to move so he threw my
books away, then we started to fight and my brother defended me. After
that, they chased him into a hallway in order to stab him. It is common to see
weapons in high school."

Her mother, Roxana Videla, says she has four children at the school and that
she had been denouncing attacks on her 8th grade son to the inspectors since
last year: "They even threatened to kill him. I can not put them in another
school."

Veronica Ramirez, director of Matilde Brandau, regretted what happened and


said it was an isolated incident that is being investigated by the Prosecutor
and the Municipal Corporation of Education: "It was a fight between two
students. We have a high percentage of school vulnerability, some children
must have criminal records, but as trainers we welcome all students”.
