Stanford 10’s Tournament

The Stanford 10’s Tournament featured
10 rookies who fared well on the day.
The victories against UCSD and Stanford
were the first wins ever for the BRUWS
in the history of being a part of the
tournament. When the news about this
reached the rookies, it sparked a
realization of change in a new path for
the team. At that point, the veterans and
coaches knew the team was going to
make it far in the season. Sure enough,
they did!

Humboldt State Rivalry

Humboldt was another feat. A former Division 1 rugby program,
this was Humboldt's first year in Division 2 and the BRUWS
proved to be a significant challenge. After being rained out of the
home field in Santa Clara, the BRUWS were forced to host the
“home” game on a turf field in Berkeley, CA. With Humboldt
being much bigger, they dominated a lot of scrums. Known for
their 8-man picks, Humboldt tried to run past the defensive
blindside flanks, but the BRUWS managed to shut them down by
forcing Humboldt to pass the ball out wide where the rest of the
defensive line came up flat and stopped them in their tracks.
Playing against Humboldt State was an interesting experience,
which sparked a notorious rivalry in the eyes of the BRUWS for
Humboldt’s unsportsmanlike taunting and high tackles.

BRUWS vs. UCSC

Unfortunately, the season for the BRUWS was not
complete without two losses against the UC Santa Cruz
Slugs this year. Our last game against UCSC was February
20th, which happened to be our Parent’s Weekend. Though
the final score was 41-0 UCSC, the BRUWS were able to
put on a good show for the parents. Unlike the score might
suggest, the BRUWS and Slugs were more evenly matched
than expected. Minor mishaps from the BRUWS defensive
line led to the Slugs taking advantage of that and scoring
several tries by passing the ball out wide. Of those 41
points, though, only 7 came from the second half because
the BRUWS pulled together and held up the Slugs for the
rest of the game.

The House
The BRUWS made their way back to the
beautiful house that was rented out by the lovely
veterans. The house was able to accommodate
every player, which was an amazing experience!
The house was incredible! It had three floors,
eight rooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen, living
room, and hot tub. After the game, the girls
jumped into a “mandatory” ice bath, showered,
and prepared themselves for a celebration of all
their accomplishments. The night ended with
more debauchery and tons of pictures no one
remembers taking!

To everyone who has

supported the BRUWS…
Thank you! Your continuous support has kept
this team great! Our coaches and supporters
mean a lot to us because we would not have
made it as far as we did this season without
you. We appreciate all the donations we have
received from our alumni and others. Your
contributions are what help this team pay for
new equipment and travel expenses. We are
also grateful for those who have come out to
our practices. You are providing much
appreciated guidance to everyone with your
experience and knowledge of the game.
We hope to keep your legacy alive, so please
continue supporting us!
