Tri-series: SL in control chasing 193


Dambulla: Upul Tharanga and captain Kumar Sangakkara brought up

the Lankan fifty and put their team in a strong position against New

Zealand in their Triangular series encounter in Dambulla on Friday.

After the high of the opening match, in which they beat India by a

massive 200 runs, the Kiwis slumped to 101 /5 in the 24th over.

Second highest scorer, Nathan McCullum (36) gave some respectability

to the New Zealand innings before perishing in the 45th over. Tim

Southee (13) and AJ McKay (4) tried to push the score but the innings

folded up in the 49th over eight runs short of the 200 mark.

Sania-Monica go down at Cincinnati


Cincinnati: India's Sania Mirza and Monica Niculescu of Romania

went down in the doubles quarterfinals of the , Western and Southern

Financial Group Women's Open tennis.

Sania and Niculescu lost 2-6, 5-7 to Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and

Maria Kirikenko of Russia here on Friday.

Bangalore to host ICC Awards ceremony


Dubai: The International Cricket Council's (ICC) awards ceremony is

coming to India for the second time since its inception six years ago,

with Bangalore set to host the prestigious event on October 6.

The seventh edition of LG ICC Awards ceremony, which is to be staged

in association with Federation of International Cricketers' Associations

(FICA), is returning to India after Mumbai

hosted it in 2006.

This year, the ICC has introduced a new category in People's Choice

Award which will be chosen by cricket fans around the world online

from a shortlist of five cricketers.


SLC apologises to Sehwag for Randiv's no ball
 

DAMBULLA: An "upset" Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday apologised to

Indian opener Virender Sehwag for the deliberate no-ball bowled by off-

spinner Suraj Randiv which left him stranded on 99 in their tri-series

match

SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga called up the Indian team

managerRanjib Biswal and apologised for Monday's incident. 

Sehwag was just one short of his 13th ODI hundred when Randiv, who

had not bowled a no ball in the Test or ODI series.
