Senior Checklist

July, August & September


 Contact colleges requesting application forms, catalogs and financial
aid information.

 Record progress in fulfilling academic requirements.

 Maintain or improve your academic grades during the senior year.


Colleges look unfavorably at declining senior grades.

 Research scholarships; national, local and college-sponsored.

 Write up a resume at this time.

 Register for the October ACT testing date.


October, November & December
 Get at least one recommendation from a counselor or teacher.

 Have your counselor check and mail your application along with a
copy of your transcript.

 Meet with college representatives when they visit the high school.

 Attend college Night.

 Explore career interest and how they relate to college studies.


 Take the ACT again.

 Make arrangements for personal interviews with colleges if required.

 Make sure that you apply for institutional scholarships before the
November 1st or December 1st deadline.

 All applications should be sent out by Christmas.

 Have parents attend Financial Aid workshops.


January
 Apply for need-based financial aid at this time by completing the
FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid) at
www.fafsa.ed.gov or by picking up a form in the counselor’s office.

 Update your resume, if necessary.


February
 Ask counselors to send official transcripts to schools with first
semester grades along with any other info not already forwarded.
March
 Avoid “Senioritis”

 Check with colleges about scholarships and other aid.

 Continue checking for scholarship info.

 Keep track of acceptance, rejections, and financial aid awards.

April, May & June


 Reply to colleges about your decision by the May 1st deadline.
 Pay close attention to deadlines.

 Promptly submit deposits required for admission and housing at the


college you will attend.
