Chapter 1
So the day started as usual…… I woke up around 10 am, searched for the pack of cigs besides
my pillow. Clicked on to the lighter and my cig came in touch with the dancing flame………. a
deep breathe in and it was all to bring me out of yesterdays thoughts.

Last night we all (I mean all the seniors) were invited to the farewell party arranged by the
juniors. This was the first night out I had decided to take. All the three years I was so busy with
studies that I don’t even remember what fun and partying is. This happens when you come
from a family which has everyone so much interested in studying and teaching. My dad has
been working as a Psychology professor for the last 10 years and my Mom an Engineering
College Lecturer. So you can understand how much I would have been under influence from
them. The Farewell Party was the first view of how much things can go wrong if we don’t keep
a tab on our doings.

Lalit and I had decided to meet at his place at 5.30 pm, from where it takes just 30 min to
reach to Rama Banquet Hall where the party was organized. I reached at Lalit’s place at 5. His
mother opened the door.

“Oh hi beta, Lalit is just getting ready. Wait in the hall I will tell him you have come. Would you
like to have something”.

I said “No Aunty, it is Ok. I just had my tea and snacks at my place. I am absolutely ok”. I
placed myself on to the bean bag Lalit had brought last week ( He wanted me to select the color
Pink or Purple). So this was the pink he selected. This bag had been in so much use in last one
week that I could feel it had lost its shine and smoothness. I felt pity for the bag.
“Hi!!!! Dumbo”, came the voice of Lalit from one end of the room. He was wearing blue jeans
with a grey color inner and on top a white un-buttoned short shirt. Phew!!!!! He had made so
much arrangement for the party. I look at myself then…… wearing a full sleeves neatly ironed
white shirt with a grey pant also ironed. Lalit was looking like a DUDE man……..

“Hey Dumbo, don’t you wana go. We are getting late now. And what is this, same old clothes.
You have been wearing this for almost 6 months”. Oh yes I forgot to tell you all that Lalit never
wears the same set of cloths for more than a month. “Come up and change”. I had no other
choice as I never won the choice battle with him. His room one of the all you can get type, was
same as usual. On one corner was his latest collectable…….. the I-Touch along with a Speaker
Stand gifted by his uncle from UK on his 20th birthday last month. It was on top of his Laptop
which he got on his twelfth birthday. Well if I keep on giving details of each and everything the
list would never stop. He went to his cupboard, shuffled for 30 sec took out a pair of cloth (I
think he wore it last month once when it was out last practical in college).

Finally we got dressed and came down in the hall in half hour. I was now a different person. A
grey inner, light green shirt with a dark brown trouser and a D&G goggle with spiked hair style.
God I don’t know how he thinks all this. I could have never done this.

“Ajay beta you look too good now”, said Lalit’s mom. “You two will definitely rock the party.
Lalit did you take your medicine?”

Well this is called as irony. Lalit is suffering from anemia, a disease in which the
Hemoglobin count is always less than what a normal body needs.

“What mom. Not now we are already late. Will take it when we are back and Ajay is staying
here tonight so don’t worry he will definitely make me have it before I sleep”. He said with a
smile and head bend to his right.
“Come Lalit before we get late, we have to reach to the party on time. It is already getting 7”.

So we rushed out towards the Honda CRV parked near the gate. As usual Lalit took the driving
seat and I had to sit on the navigator seat. With quick wave of hand he said bye to his mother
and started the SUV so we three took off…….. He, Me and our CRV……

Well it has been years i have known Lalit. Crazy for speeds...... has fractured most of his bones.
Last time when i know he had an accident was 8 months back when he hit a standing truck on
Pune Banglore highway. Foreign cars come with a great security features which i came to know
that day. His Mercedes went straight in the truck from behind and squzeed the bonnet.
However Lalit had escaped only with a bleeding nose and broken wrist. It took him 6 months to
get back to normal and get this CRV out to drive.

I was not feeling comfortable today, as we were going to meet Natasha, Simran and Vinay.
All the three had been my friend since I joined the college. Lots had changed since the last
3 years. Natasha is now going out with Lalit and Simran with Vinay. I was the only one left
alone in the group. Well this is only the present scenario. It was not the same a year back.

It is bit painful to remember all those but I will try and share it with you all.
