1 INT. EYE - DAY

Green light shines on the other side of an eyelid.

TITLE: "THE WEIGHT OF LIGHT"

2 EXT. FOREST - DAY

Someone looks down at the ground as they walk. The padded

ground has leaves, grass and branches spread all over.

CLAIRE(22) walks across the forest. In the back, JANA(12)

follows her. Claire seems thoughtful and is looking down at
the ground as she walks. Jana playfully runs around picking
up stuff from the ground, putting it all in her little bag.

CUT TO:

3 EXT. FOREST - DAY

A bare foot stretches reaching for the water of a small

stream. Claire is holding on from a tree. As soon as her toe
touches the water a rock falls into the stream close to her.
Claire quickly takes her foot out.

In the back, stands Jana.

JANA
(in Spanish)
Look what I found!

Jana looks into her bag and takes out:

JANA
(in Spanish)
A condom! And.. Cuahutemoc
Blanco's action figure! [She
laughs]

Claire smiles, then looks at the ice cream cone Jana is

holding.

CLAIRE
(in English and confused)
Where did you get that?

JANA
(in Spanish)
Do you want some?

Jana hands her the ice cream. As Claire reaches for it, the
ice cream falls on the ground catching little stones, dirt
and small pieces of wood on it.

Claire stepped forward and her wet toe also caught dirt and
stuff from the ground.

JANA
(in Spanish)
Ah. It's ok, I'll get some more!

CLAIRE
(even more confused)
More? Where??

Without hesitation, Jana quickly runs off in another

direction.

CUT TO:

4 EXT. FOREST - DAY

Jana zig zags around trees, jumps over fallen logs and kicks
some leaves as she runs through the forest.

CUT TO:

5 EXT. FOREST - DAY

Back by the stream, confused Claire looks at her dirty toe,

cleans it up and puts her shoe back on. Next to her, the ice
cream melting under green light.

Claire looks at the ice cream then heads towards the path.

On her way, among bushes and trees she spots a green puffy
couch with random objects on it. On the top there is an
opened box that shines green light. Claire, annoyed, passes
by the couch not caring.

6 EXT. FOREST - DAY

Claire makes it to the path and looks for Jana. A funny ring
tone is heard. Claire picks up her phone.

CLAIRE
(on the phone)
Hello?
Oh, hi.
Yeah...

Claire looks around for Jana, but can't see her.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)
She is.. around.

Claire finally spots Jana. Jana is standing in front of the

couch, staring right into the box. She has more vanilla ice
cream. Claire smiles.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)
Yes.

Claire looks at her watch.

CLAIRE (CONT'D)
Ok. Bye.

CLAIRE
(to Jana)
You there! Come on, we have to
go..

JANA
(in Spanish)
You seen this?

Claire nods and waves at Jana for coming back.

She finally joins Claire who puts her arm around her
shoulder and both walk away.

In the back, the light in the box fades and the ice cream
has melted completely.

7 INT. CZECH RESTAURANT - DAY

A relatively old, rustic and empty restaurant. It's late in

the afternoon and Claire and Jana sit in a wooden table for
two. A green stroke of light coming from the window next to
them is the only light source illuminating the yet dark
place.

Jana curiously looks at the table and cutlery be lit by the

green light. She holds up a spoon and looks at it's
reflection. Claire looks at Jana and smiles gently. Claire
is holding the menu upside down. She turns, and after a sigh
stares into nothing, thoughtful.

Claire closes her eyes and slowly turns her head, towards
the window.

8 INT. CLAIRE'S EYE - DAY

Behind her eyelids: the soft green glow.

WAITRESS (OFF SCREEN)

(in Czech)
Have you decided?

9 INT. CZECH RESTAURANT - DAY

Claire quickly opens her eyes and turns back.

The WAITRESS(40's) wears black clothes and bright fake pearl

necklace and ear rings. She also smokes a cigarette and
wears a maybe a little too much make up.

CLAIRE
Dobr! den... um...

Claire grabs the menu. It's upside down. She quickly turns
it around, then looks at Jana.

CLAIRE
What do you want?

JANA
(in Spanish)
I don't know, what do they have?

CLAIRE
I don't know.. Chicken.. and all
that stuff.

The waitress takes a puff and remains silent in front of

them, looking tired and annoyed.

CLAIRE
(to waitress)
No.. I'm ok, thank you.

WAITRESS
(in Czech, nodding)
Nothing?

CLAIRE
No, nothing. Thanks.

WAITRESS
(in Czech)
What about her?

CLAIRE
(to Jana)
Come on, what do you want?

JANA
( to Claire in Spanish)
Do they have ice cream?

CLAIRE
Ice cream?

Jana nods affirmatively, then looks at the waitress, who

stands in the shade silently.

CLAIRE
(to waitress)
Um.. Do you have ice cream?

WAITRESS
(in Czech)
What kind?

CLAIRE
(making an ice cream cone
shape with her hands)
Um.. "Ice Cream"?

WAITRESS
" Nooo... "

CLAIRE
No?

WAITRESS
(in English)
YES.

CLAIRE
(very confused)
Ice Cream, yes?

WAITRESS
(super annoyed)
ANO! "estina!
YES! English!
Type! Strawberry? Chocolate?
Vanilla?

Claire looks at Jana stressed out.

JANA
Mmm...

Jana looks down at her spoon reflecting green light.

JANA (CONT'D)
Lemon!

Claire looks at the waitress. The waitress remains silent.

She takes a puff, turns around and walks away letting the
smoke out.

JANA
(to Claire in Spanish)
I'm going to the restroom, I'll be
right back.

CLAIRE
Ok.

Jana stands up and leaves Claire alone. Claire sighs and

quickly glances at the window.

The waitress comes back dropping a bowl with green ice cream
on the table. Claire nods thankful.

The waitress leaves, stands by the bar and lights another

cigarette.

The ice cream is starting to melt under the green light. The
waitress silently observes from the bar. Claire looks around
for Jana.

10 INT. WOMEN'S RESTROOM - DAY

Claire opens the door of the restroom, not finding Jana

around. She looks confused and heads back to the table.

11 INT. A HALLWAY - DAY

Claire opens the restroom door, stepping into a long dark

hallway. Confused, Claire goes into the restroom and comes
out again, finding herself still in front of the hallway.

Claire spots books, notebooks, pencils, scissors, colored

markers and other school items on the floor next to her.

She walks across the long hallway.

12 INT. THE LOCKER ROOM - DAY

Turning around a corner, Claire enters a room with different

colored lockers everywhere. On the other side, she spots an
room with a slightly opened door.

13 INT. A CLASSROOM - DAY

Claire opens the door, entering an abandoned classroom.

Chairs all over the place. Books and paper all over the
floor. Rests of chalk on the black board and even a
"terrestrial globe?" dumped by a corner.
14 INT. PRIMARY SCHOOL - DAY

As soon as Claire steps out of the classroom, bright green

light shines right on her face. Claire steps into the
classroom again.

15 INT. PRIMARY SCHOOL/CLASSROOM - DAY

Claire stands by the door, having the wall behind her block
the green light that now shines into the classroom.

After a moment, Claire takes a deep breath.

CUT TO:

16 INT. PRIMARY SCHOOL/HALLWAY - DAY

Claire walks down a hallway quickly. She holds up her hand,

shading the constant green light on her face.

CUT TO:

17 INT. PRIMARY SCHOOL/MAIN DOOR - DAY

Claire tries to open the school's main door but it's locked.
She turns around and leans against a wall frustrated.

Claire lifts her hand, blocking the green light from her
eyes. She is almost in tears.

She hears some noise coming from a hallway, then quickly

turns and sees a shape go into a classroom.

As soon as she starts walking towards the classroom. Green

light starts to shine from inside it.

Claire stops. Again, she hears more noise, certainly coming

from inside the room.
 8.

Claire glances back, then waits a little bit. She takes one
deep breath and finally decides to walk in.

As soon as she approaches the door, HERSELF(same age, same

Claire) comes out bumping into her. The other Claire drops
something on the floor.

18 EXT. SQUARE - NIGHT

After the quick shock, Claire finds herself alone in the

middle of a wide square at night. Green light still shines
on her, not as bright anymore and this time coming from
above.

Claire looks up to the sky. A bright green Full Moon shines.

Claire accidentally kicks something on the ground. It's a

box wrapped in paper. She picks it up and opens it.

It is a plastic analog picture camera and some rolls of

negative.

Suddenly, from Red to Blue, passing by all the other colors

in between, the "visible light spectrum" starts to gently
shine on her face.

Claire takes out a little note from the box. It's

hand-written:'welcome' on it. Claire looks a little
confused, yet relieved.

JANA (OFF SCREEN)

(to Claire in Spanish)
Hey!

Claire turns around.

In the back, a little shape approaches from the dark. It's

Jana, holding a green glowing ice cream cone. Claire smiles.

JANA
(in Spanish)
Hey.. I have to go. I'll see u
later.

Claire looks up. In the back, someone waits for Jana. It

kinda looks exactly like Claire, but Claire isn't sure since
its a little dark.

CLAIRE
(to Jana)
Ok, see you later then! Take care.

JANA
(in Spanish)
Yes! Bye. [She smiles]

Jana walks back towards the girl waiting for her. The girl
waves at Claire, then puts her arm around Jana's shoulder
and both walk away.

Back in the middle of the square stands Claire looking calm,

thoughtful and holding her box.

In the sky, the Moon starts to slowly turn from green back
to white.

Claire looks up. The green light is gone.
