OBJECTIVE

The aim of the project is the development of a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) for personnel
transportation inside the mine.

Benefits,

 Reduce the levels of noxious emissions of the ICV (Internal Combustion Vehicle)
 Reduce the consumption of lubricating oil and fuel of the mines.
 Reduction of the total cost.
 Improve the safety of the workers.

The project covers these aspects,

 Chassis and Powertrain

 Electronic System
 Charging Stations
 Ergonomic Studies
 Safety

CHASSIS AND POWERTRAIN

The configuration desired for this vehicle is the pick-up configuration. This vehicle should
allow two passengers and must have a designated area to carry materials and tools.

Although the maximum velocity inside the mine is limited to 20 km/h, the characteristic mine
ground will transmit rapid angular moments to the roll, pitch and yaw axis. Hence the geometry
should be carefully analyzed before to give the maximum comfort to the driver.

The powertrain system of the Battery Electric Vehicles are simple than the conventional Internal
Combustion Engines; but the advantage is bigger if the vehicle can be designed to be powered
with electric in-wheel engines. The principal advantages of the In-Wheel vehicle is that the
vehicle distribution can be readjusted for two main reasons: in first place, this vehicle do not
have a component that need to be refrigerated, so the masses can be centered and reduce the
impact of the inertial moments; another reason is the. Moreover, the use of in-wheel motors,
BEVs becomes lighter and this extra weight-saved can be used for example to increase the
energy stored of the vehicle.

ELECTRONIC SYSTEM
(Batteries, power electronics, control ...)

Relevant  The application of the traction control to optimise the energy consumption and
expand the range of the battery.

Problem  Regenerative braking cannot be used with high temperatures of the battery.

CHARGING STATIONS

(Electric Infrastructure, charging points, remote charge ...)

ERGONOMIC STUDIES

(Accessibility, operation, maintenance ...)

Due to the nature of the vehicle, there is little background in the field of Battery Electric
Vehicles developed specifically for personnel carrier, in terms of mine sites.

Although in the last decade the electric vehicle has improved in technology advances, the
interface between man and vehicle did not receive the same treatment.
