Experiment: To observe the rate in which hot water cools down.

Apparatus: retort stand, boiling tube, thermometer, bunsen burner, stop watch, prongs.

Procedure: i.-fill the boiling tube with water to approximately three quarter of it.

ii.-heat the boiling tube filled with water with a busen burner(place the tube where the
a flame is bluer).

iii.-place the boiling tube on the stand(grip the tube at its end).

iv.-place a thermometer(one third of it in the water) in the water handled above on the
kkkkka retort stand.

v.-record the temperature at different time intervals on a table(result).

Errors: the main experimental error in this experiment is about taking two informations (time and
aggggf temperature) simultaneously, which result in non accurate values.

Solution for the error: best fit line may be drawn in the plotted graph below to eliminate errors.

Result: time/s 0 60 120 180 240 300 360 420 480 540
temp/°
C 70 67.5 65 63 61 59 57.5 55.5 54 52.5

Conclusion: more or less a straight line is obtained which in other words means that decrease in
temperature is proportional to its respective time.
