MUSIPEDIA
 Search
 Musipedia takes searching for songs a whole new level.
 It helps you find songs you like that you may have heard
before, but cannot remember the details to.
 Before searching for songs could be a pain. It can be hard to
figure out what a song might have been called, or remember
the lyrics accurately.
 Contribute
 Musipedia also focuses on building a searchable database of
all music to make searching for songs more comprehensive.
 Inspired by wikipedia, anyone can contribute to the collection
and build up the database if their favorite song is missing.
HOW IT WORKS
 Keyboard Search
 For the more musically minded, you can play a piano melody to
search against the database.
 Contour Search
 Also known as the Parsons code, this is based on the relative sound
of a note compared to the one preceding it. It uses the symbols U for
up, D for down, and R for repeat.
 Sing or Whistle
 If you have a microphone you can hum or whistle the tune and the
site will interpret it into musical notes and rhythm.
 Rhythm Search
 If you only know the rhythm you can tap it out with the keyboard.
HISTORY
 Founded by Rainer Typke
 Musipedia began as Melodyhound in 1997 which was the
music search engine without the wiki like database.
 In 2004 Musipedia added wiki like features that allows the
users to add and edit the database.
 In 2006 it added a world wide web search for Midi files for
use by developers with the Alexa Web Search Service
TECHNOLOGY
 Character Matching
 The musipedia music database contains the character notes of various
songs, and the user search in translated into this format for comparison.
 Similarity
 The search also checks for similarity, based on how many notes would
have to be deleted, inserted or replaced to match the database.
 Pitch and Onset Searches
 Timing and pitch is analyzed by looking at a 2D representation of the
search and checking for relative similarities to the song in the database.
 Instead of searching the entire song only a small portion is compared in
the search.
 Rhythm
 The pitch of the song is ignored in this case and only onset is checked.
BUSINESS
 Advertising
 Musipedia has Google adsense ads and links to purchase
songs off amazon.
 Overall the site has no distinct business model and is not
really for profit.
 Alexa Web Search Service
 Allows developers to search 300 Terabytes of web crawl at
$0.30 per 1000 requests.
ULTRASOUND
 Distribution for Independent artists

with purchases available to use songs offline.

minimal amount of pages to crawl through and objects to
