The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory related to the Commonwealth Games. Since September 26th, dedicated Games Lanes have been maintained from the Games Village to venues like the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and family hotels. These lanes have now been extended to the Major Dhayan Chand Hockey Stadium and Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. Additionally, the Transport Department has issued a notification prohibiting certain goods vehicles on 84 roads from 6am to 10pm and during peak hours from September 30th to October 15th to facilitate Games traffic. People are suggested to use public transport or car pools to avoid congestion on the Games Lanes.

To facilitate Commonwealth Games related traffic, Delhi Traffic Police has
been maintaining dedicated Games Lane from Games Village to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Games Family hotels from 8.00 A.M. to 8.00 P.M. since 26.09.10. Now, dedicated Games Lanes have been extended to Major Dhayan Chand Hockey Stadium and Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium from Games Village. For other competition and training Venues, Traffic Police has been facilitating the movement of Athletes and officials.
A Notification relating to the movement of all categories of goods vehicles
during Commonwealth Games which will be effective from 30.09.10 to 15.10.10 has been issued by Transport Department. This Notification prohibits the entry, plying and idle parking of heavy, medium and light goods vehicles on certain roads during specified timings. According to Notification, there will be day time restriction on the entry, plying and idle parking of HGVs, MGVs from 6.00 A.M. to 10.00 P.M. on 84 roads including NH-8, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, Aurobindo Marg, Nelson Mandela Marg, Aruna Asaf Ali Road, Thamaiya Marg, Shankar Road, DBG Road, Rani Jhansi Road. There will be peak hour restrictions on entry, plying and idle parking similarly of HGVs, MGVs and 24 – hour restriction on certain roads. Simillarly, there will be restriction on plying of LGVs(four- wheeled and above) & three wheeled LGVs on specified roads/areas in NCT of Delhi. The Notification also mentions restriction on the entry, plying and idle parking of all types of trailers and semi-trailers entering from neighbouring States. To avoid congestion on the roads having Games Lane, it is suggested that
people should use public transport including metro trains and car pools. People can also take alternative routes suggested on Delhi Traffic Police website.
