Fishing the Saranac River

Trout fishing:

Main Branch:

A. Good access on River Road in Bloomingdale. This is before Franklin


Falls Pond. (See log 2001.)

B. After the Ponds, becomes accessible again at Silver Lake Road


bridge. There are 3 public access areas just north of the bridge down to the
junction with Rt 3 in Clayburg. Steep banks. Excellent brown & rainbow
trout fishing. (Have color map from NYSDEP)

Water is turbulent with lots of boulders. Gets calm again after merges with
the North Branch in Clayburg.

North Branch:

C. Trophy trout, artificials only, access from public parking areas on Rt 3


from Alder Brook 5 miles north to Clayburg. (Have color map from
NYSDEP. See also log 2002.) Min size is 12.” Limit is 3.

Headwaters are reached via Goldsmith Road, which joins Rt 3 a few miles
west of Alder Brook. Very small stream here.

Bass & Pike:

Fish the slower water closer to Saranac Lake town.
